yeah....and those two people are called "activists". if you and i did the exact same thing they do, except for white people, we would be called "racists". not only would black people call us that, but every liberal in the country would be doing it as well.

Default MEmphis Memphis Memphis

I think Memphis, TN is horrible when it comes to racism and segregation. The inner city schools are ALL white and the suburbs are All white with a small hand full exceptions. It is extreme over here.

but don't the black kids live in the city and the white kids live in the suburbs? that is how it is around houston. it has nothing to do with someone being racist. haven't you heard of white flight?

I mentioned the Bay Area as maybe being the least racist area around, however, the city, since 2008, whose police force has killed more non whites since 2000 is, Oakland.
So like I said, is it really fair to pin a most or least title on any city/area?
It could be.
I would base it on 5 things, poverty levels, segergation indexes, interracial marriages, police incidents and number of minorities in government positions.
There may be a few others I'm leaving out.
Spokane is not exactly known as a place of diversity and tolerance, however, they, in spite of a black population of under 2% at the time, elected a black mayor. I think it was in the late 80's.
In most towns, particulary back east, if a town had a population of 2% black, a black man running for office, that would win, would be extremely unlikely.

Uh, last I checked...black students only made up 28% of HISD.

The inner city schools are all white?
Memphis has it's problems, for sure, probably a pretty racist town...
how do you explain the movie "Hustle and Flow" though?
The producers were from Memphis and I don't think that would inaccurately characterize the town.

I post San Antonio as least racist,
the bad thing is that it has a very small black and asian population compared to most cities.

But it's a city that seems 1/2 hispanic, 1/2 white and you find all kind of people (including black and asian) living in any neighborhood.

I moved to San Antonio about 6 months ago from Missouri and I can't believe how homogenous the city is (You find all type of people everywhere)

ok....maybe i should have said "minorities" since it is probably mostly Mexican. my point was though that there are not many white kids in HISD.

I lived in S.A. myself for a little bit. I would say, maybe the least racist city in the south (even though a lot of folks don't think S.A. is a southern city).
Plus, yes, it is probably one of the least racist towns nationwide. I would say what helps with that though, is that the majority of the population is hispanic, not white or black.

I'd speculate the racism of a city correlates fairly closely to it's percentage black.

Fairly easy for folks in largely white areas to talk inclusiveness when they don't actually have to live with it.

But folks that are in places like Detroit, et. al. can see it close up. The more of it they see, the more they are compelled to be racist.
