Senator questions Obama eligibility
Shelby: 'They said he was born in Hawaii, but I haven't seen any birth certificate'

WASHINGTON A U.S. senator has weighed in on the continuing controversy over Barack Obama's eligibility for office by saying he has never seen proof the new president was actually born in Hawaii.

"Well, his father was Kenyan and they said he was born in Hawaii, but I haven't seen any birth certificate," Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., told constituents in Cullman County. "You have to be born in America to be president."

I was just reading a piece about an active duty soldier in Iraq questioning the O's credentials.

Quote:
A U.S. soldier on active duty in Iraq has called President Obama an "impostor" in a statement in which he affirmed plans to join as plaintiff in a challenge to Obama's eligibility to be commander in chief.
I'm glad to see citizens pursuing a complete exposure of the facts, good or bad but the O has been sworn into the office. It's not gonna be easy to get him out if proven not eligible.

Update: Shelby's office says the local news account isn't a full reflection of the senator's comments, and that the senator "doesn't have any doubt" about Obama's citizenship and eligibility.

Second Update: While Shelby claims the local paper misconstrued his comments, the paper stands by its story. There are rumors that a video might be available. I'll keep you posted.

Need a "right-wing fantasy" forum for the eligibility questions and BC silliness.
