Charlie Cook

"As polling very clearly shows, congressional Republicans have done nothing to help themselves by almost unanimously opposing the massive stimulus package. Indeed, they look increasingly isolated: a narrow party that is looking inward for sustenance. Selecting former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele to be national party chairman is about the only intelligent thing that Republicans have done since Election Day. At this point, a Republican rebound seems more contingent upon a Democratic collapse than anything else. Certainly, Republicans aren't doing anything these days to help bring themselves back

And from the latest Washington Post Poll

""Head to head, though, Americans put far more faith in Obama than in congressional Republicans: Sixty-one percent said they trust Obama more than the GOP on economic matters; 26 percent side with the Republicans in Congress. On that question, Obama's advantage is bigger than George W. Bush, Bill Clinton or George H.W. Bush ever had over the opposition party in the legislature.""

""Overall, Democrats maintain an edge of nearly 2 to 1 over Republicans as the party that Americans prefer to confront "the big issues" over the next few years.""

No surprise there! It also means the American people aren't as gullible as the GOP thinks they are.

Obama's Job Approval Ratings High, but Poll Finds Bipartisan Support Eroding
Its hilarious all they are accomplkishing in their so called finding their voice is exposing themselves as partisan politicians. They may be shoring up their base but they are alienating themselves and shrinking their influence at the sametime. They have painted themselves in a dark corner.

Couldn't care about polls. Polls are interesting to look at, but listening to polls done to a 1000 people in liberal Wash D.C. is stupid. Following polls is not leadership.

You have to stand on principle. A part of leadership is to do just that and do the right thing and to set a course and direction for people to follow.

Republicans are in the crap because they did the opposite the last 8 years. No leadership, no standing on principle. They bent over backwards and lost their backbone and they ended up more hated than ever, including from the conservative base.

Yep. They never learn. McCain and Palin ran the most hateful campaign in this century. Did they win? No. Did the Republicans learn anything from that? No. Instead, being the total idiots that they are, they think all they have to do is put a person of color in charge of the RNC and shove Jindal into the limelight, and that will do the job. Totally clueless. It's amazing to watch, actually.

Trust me on this, Charlie Cook does not charge the big bucks AND COLLECT IT FROM Ds AND Rs because he's "polling 1000 people in DC". The guy is one of the most respected political consultants operating today. The reason he doesn't sign on to run, or run parts of campaigns is simple, HE'S NOT GOING TO TAKE A PAY CUT.

Everyone polls. Including your beloved empty headed "leaders" in the R house and Senate. The difference is they're only listening to the polls that FNC is doing on their mouth breathing "base".
