But that's too logical, reasonable, and it seems to be completely out of the question. I don't understand why. I know lots of people who are able to live full and happy lives without ever having to even consider an abortion. B/c they don't practice irresponsible sexual habits.
Blaming the women who seek abortions, rather than trying to solve the problems that women who have unexpected pregnancies face is inherently a dead end strategy. Women don't seek abortions because they are irresponsible or immoral, women seek abortions because child-bearing and child-rearing are tremendous challenges made even more overwhelming by economic and social disparity.

While I don't for a minute believe that single motherhood is difficult at best, lets be honest here. Every woman that I know who had an abortion where from solid middle class families, and they themselves were college educated at the time of their abortions.
Lets not pretend that only minority/poor women have abortions.

I'm not pretending anything. It doesn't matter if you are solidly middle-class, lower class or wealthy, women don't earn as much as men. It doesn't matter if you are well-educated or a junior high drop out, child care and household responsibilities overwhelmingly are taken care of by women. It doesn't matter if you make $15,000 a year or $150,000 a year, daycare is still hideously expensive. It doesn't matter if you're Polly Peacock or Ma Barker, pregnancy and childbirth is still a life-altering experience.

Camping, you're reading things into my posts that aren't there. I know you take a moderate pro-life position, but my position isn't pro-abortion, it is and always has been pro-women.

I understand that it does nothing to directly solve the problem.

But why not address the cause instead of just continuing to discuss the symptoms? Unwanted pregnancy is usually a result of poor choices and decision making. And someone has to be responsible - if you want to call that 'blame,' so be it.

And how the heck can it be an 'unexpected' pregnancy? Pregnancy is the natural outcome of sexual relations. If you engage in an activity that may have a certain outcome and then you try to boo hoo to me that the aforementioned outcome came to pass, I will point the finger at you, I will blame you...for where else does this lie? Whose responsibility is it?

I'm not talking about morality. I'm talking about responsibility.

I agree. This has been debated ad nausea, it is a moot point. Unless you posted this with the express purpose of starting a flame war, I don't know why we need another "abortion is murder" thread. One thing I do want to add is the fact that most people who are rabid pro-life are also pro-death penalty. It never ceases to amaze me that "abortion is murder" but it is ok to play God and take the life of someone who is a criminal. If abortion is "murder" then what is the "death penalty". I just don't get it. Flame away.

It's unexpected when the condom breaks. It's unexpected when your tubes are tied and you get pregnant anyway. It's unexpected when your husband has a vasectomy and you get pregnant anyway. it's unexpected when you are taking the pill or using the patch, and get pregnant anyway.

Again, you want to reduce the number of women seeking abortions, then you need to STOP blaming the women, and start resolving the social issues that make abortion a preferable choice to going through with the pregnancy. You will never stop abortions completely. Some women will always have compelling reasons to end a pregnancy. But if the pro-life movement would actually be pro-life, making life better and easier for pregnant women and mothers and their children, then the movement would be a positive one. Blaming women or demeaning them because they choose abortion is a negative path to follow.

All these 'unexpected' things occur when you're having sex. Having sex. You get pregnant without having sex, then you can tell me it was truly 'unexpected.'

And my experience (as a medical professional) is that the circumstances of which you speak are in the vast minority. Most people are simply not being careful enough.

I've definitely seen pregnancies as a result of contraceptive failure - but most of the contraceptives will tell you (on the label) that they are not 100%. Neither is having your tubes tied.

And I think you're wrong by saying that the only choices are abortion and going through with the pregnancy. Fix the problem up front and you won't have two such unpalatable choices.

I agree that no one should be demeaned, but that doesn't absolve them of their responsibility.

I was a birth control baby, my brother was born after my mother had a tubal ligation, after being told that she was sterile after recovering from cervical cancer.

My best friend got pregnant while on Depo Provera, the BC shot. I had another friend who got pregnant while taking the pill.

Accidents happen.

Kind of on topic, I happened to catch an 'abortion' debate on one of the news networks last night. It was 3 older gentleman, probably in their 50's or 60's arguing over abortion rights. There was not a SINGLE WOMAN on that program. W.T.F.

well the bible says it's the same as murder it might not be actual murder but in gods eyes if you give an abortion it's the same as killing the baby.
