How stupid are they, the public overwhelmingly sees them as obstructionist playing political games and they want to bring back the guy that was the ultimate obstructionist?
Oh well so be it!
You mean the political drama right before the elections in 1996, with Bob Dole trying to position himself against Clinton.
Balancing budget was one of the first and key moves Clinton made upon taking office in 1993 and NOT ONE republican voted for it. Thanks to a democrat majority, it went thru in the senate with tie breaker vote by the VP.
Im sorry
I thought congress controlled the pruse strings of the country
In 1993, democrats did control the congress, and helped Bill pass his Budget reconciliation bill. The 1996 episode was simply a political drama created in support of Bob Dole to go against Bill Clinton in the upcoming elections.

The bill in 1993 passed without one republican vote.
When Newt forced Clinton to balance the budget by
Shutting downt the govt
Things turned out well
Anything that happens in the government that is good you'll say it's thank to the republican janitor in the White House.
Anything that is bad (economy), you'll blame the president that's been there a few days and say that the one that was driving the bus for 8 years has nothing to do with the economy being stuck in a ditch.

Good point, who controlled the White House and congress for 6 of the last 8 years?
