Default Why are you into Politics?

I was just thinking how interesting it is that we all come back here every day and post stuff, debate, argue and talk about politics. And I was wondering what it is about politics that interests you? How did you get into it?

For me, I grew up in a very political family. My mom was an active Republican, and I remember C-Span, Rush Limbaugh, or CNN being on when I got home from school every day. The first election I remember with any detail is 1992, but I first got interested during the 1994 elections. I was thirteen, and had other teenage stuff to do, but I was also really into politics too. And the interest in politics has been with me ever since.

How about you?

Well, I work there. Plus, with all this background in economics, I'm a little sensitive to market imperfections, and the right-wing disinformation media comprise one colossal market imperfection. Gotta try to root that sort of stuff out...

Not really that into politics persay. I'm an Independent voter and don't automatically follow either party's dogma. More interested in trying to stay ahead of legislation that will affect my family and career.

What a wonderful guy ! Likes to argue for fun, and in the last four or five posts you have made you have called people names. I'll list some of the names you have called people today;

stupid,
sheep,
rabid retards,
slugs,
weasel,
fatboy

I certainly don't need to use juvenile name calling to get my opinion heard.

Discussion of politics, laws, and overall ideals is a great way to put our ideas down without interruption. It's also an excellent way to vent out the frustrations of the world around us. By releasing our anger and such, we can *hopefully* be more pleasant to people we deal with face-to-face.

Personally, I love reading (hearing) what people think or feel about certain issues. Certain topics I will steer clear of, because I may think it silly, but others I will read from start to finish. I like being able to read the posts here and getting to "know" everyone from the posts they make.

I grew up in a very conservative home. my dad would listen to Bob grant on the radio all day "wabc" and i became addicted to talk radio myself. as a teen and in my early twenties, when I was rich and bored, I became a bit of a liberal. (I still am a liberal when it comes to choice and gays etc. and stem cell (although I DON'T think a government should fund it with MY tax dollas and I DON't think sex should be taught in schools)) but I grew out of that nonsense when I had to pay rent and raise my own family and saw how much of my money is going to tax. (and became much poorer and so did my parents) so now I a a reagan conservative or a fiscal conservative or whatever you want to call it

Political debate is a sport that doesn't require knee surgery after a couple of years.

Political debate is a sport where everyone goes home thinking they're the winner.

Political debate online brings no age, sex, race, income, disability, etc., discrimination among the contestants. A black guy in a wheelchair or a white woman athlete, a 14 year old girl or an 85 year old retiree, a rich CEO or a welfare queen, a college professor or a high school drop, all can jump right in and start sparring with each other on equal footing without their opponent dismissing them on sight for not being their kind of people.

Personally, I like the sitting down in my pajamas part of the sport of political debate.
