Yep, the legislature of the state of Connecticut seems to be wanting to mess with the Separation of Church and State as it is described since Jefferson's letter. It seems that someone, nobody knows who, suggested this law that would take control of individual Catholic churches away from the local clergy and give control to committees that would be appointed by the State. I think that maybe they messed with the wrong church, though, since there is to be a very large protest rally tomorrow when the vote was to have been taken.
Well you can learn a lot more about this situation by reading the links than from me.
Yeah, I know about the sources but earlier today we were linked with Democrat Underground so I decided I wouldn't read everything on Google looking for something that didn't lean right. You may find that the Courant is a newspaper in Connecticut, also.
For those who enjoy a laugh now and then, at the expense of the left, I will throw in one for laughs. BULLDOZE THE ACLU!
While I am not great fan of the Catholic Church (I'm also not a non-fan) this seems to be way out of line. I don't see how the state can dictate how any purely private organization regulates it's internal governance.
First the fairness doctrine and now this?
I don't care what side of the political line a person might be -- but these types of things ought to scare all of us.
Bad, bad precedents are being set.....
I didn't read the article but if it is as you stated then that is one scary piece of legislation. It will fail and whoever suggested it should NOT be reelected.
It will surely fail; however, it is a good distraction to keep church member's focus away from other issues the state is voting on. Especially those dealing with abortion issues.
If you read the actual language of the bill, all it is doing is making church owned corporations follow the rules that other corporations have to. That is as it should be.

If so, then why are they singling out the Catholic Church?
