Was channel-surfing a bit ago and the guy whose life the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" was based on was talking on Glenn Beck. He asked, "What would happen if, instead of all of these bailouts, the govt. gave every man and woman who was over 21 years of age and a registered voter $1 million?"

Whoa, good question! What WOULD happen? Home sales would skyrocket, financial investments would skyrocket, people could open small businesses, kids could go to college, bills could be paid off, and recovery would be in the hands of the PEOPLE and businesses would have to be competitive and citizen-centered to reap the benefits of all of that spending power.

What would be the down side of it?

That every one of them would want to spend $3 million. (just look at the number of lottery winners that went bankrupt in a few years)

Sure, some would blow the money foolishly but they'd still be spending and stimulating the economy. Plus, they wouldn't have to buy gifts for friends and relatives because all of the adults they know would have a million, too.

They would be told, that since they have a million, they could afford, a Enzo, a 4 million dollar home, a yatch, a vacation home in bermuda, and just about every thing else under the sun. We've become a greedy nation, and feel we deserve it all, no matter how much we have.

You're failing to realize that Americans are also a very generous people and many would donate heavily to charity, which would improve services and communities. I know I'd donate AT LEAST 10 percent of it because it's part of my values system and my needs are simple.

It's a great idea but it won't work, "that guy" and his admin will never let go of our money.

The price of everything would go thru the roof. The money would simply be absorbed into the "economy", and then deflation would ensue when everyone ran out of money, and couldnt afford to keep buying anything...Isnt that kinda where we are now? This plan seems like it's just taking the banker/creditor out of the middle.....

I had a laugh when this idea was floated on Rush Limbaugh show because, clearly, not only does this take the whole idea of spreading the wealth around to another level, it also happens to be poorly thought out on many levels.

To provide a perspective, it will take $1T to give a million each to one 1 million people. Or, $100T to cover 100 million people. And we've got approximately 170 million registered voters... and thats just the math involving a "stimulus package" that is more than 1000% the size of our GDP.

We're not talking anything else, yet.
