But this is an aged-based ban, right?

Just looking to clarify.

Yes.

A 17 year old cannot buy a cutlery set in the UK as it contains a butter knife.

No matter what a country tries to ban, people hell-bent on owning a weapon will find a way to have one. All these bans do is limit options for law-abiding folks to defend themselves in an attack.

They've been talking about banning pointed kitchen knives...

Does anyone have any links on this? I can't seem to find a definite reference that items like butterknives are included in the ban. Just curious, really.

This picture could be the result of an overly literal reading of the law by the store staff, or even poor sign placement.

Anyway, seems like a mighty silly side-effect that goes against the laws seeming intent.

Meh. It's not my law. While I don't see the need to keep teens from buttering toast, if the UK Gov't wants to stop knife sales to teens, let em have at it. I will say that when a good friend of mine was mugged in London, it wasn't at gunpoint. It was at knifepoint by three little s**thead teenagers, and my buddy was only carrying 20 pounds in cash, so he didn't think it was worth the hassle.

I will say also that I think knives are exceptionally useful, and carry one at all times. (Just a little lockblade). I am, however, an adult and my father taught me how to use a knife years and years ago. There was never a need for me to buy my own knife (even if I paid with my money, my Dad was with me) until I was on my own.
