The Pope "rejected" the use of condoms (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123729352183054841.html - broken link) as a way to help fight the AIDS epidemic in Africa.

Way to go doofus. What's it to you if millions more black non-Catholics die a terrible death so long as you get to pontificate from a ludicrous ivory tower in a fantasyland replete with hilariously costumed guards at the door.

Excerpts:
- priests and nuns working with those living with HIV/AIDS question the church's opposition to condoms amid the pandemic ravaging Africa.
- the pontiff also dismissed the notion that he was facing increasing opposition and isolation within the church.

No kidding. Like in the 1950's and 1960's, there were Catholic priests in our inner cities who agitated FOR abortion. Those priests worked with the desperately poor large white families and saw the horror of backstreet abortions and the despair of poverty wrought by having large families that could not be afforded even with the steady factory work of that era. This current Pope has proven to be a disaster for all humanity; instead of leading people to the future, he is leading them backwards to the dark ages. No wonder he is feeling isolated, even within the Vatican. He earned it.

The Pope is for "abstinence only" which we KNOW does not work, has NEVER worked and never will work. Such idiotic notions have rendered both the GOP and the Vatican irrelevant and impotent as a force for progress.

Abstinence works. Always.

Saying it doesn't work is just a way to justify not having any self control. That's it.

You can argue what people should be doing, but you cannot argue that it doesn't work. Sex outside of marriage has always been there, but until we started eroding away our values in the 60's, things like STD's, children without fathers, abortions, etc weren't even remotely prevalent. They existed, but the numbers were fractions of what it is today.

Now, it's the norm to sleep with anyone and blame it on human nature. It's normal to have an abortion and justify it. It's normal to raise a kid with one parent.

It's sad. There are those that want to get back to some sort of family value system and self control, then there are those that just want to justify everything saying that humans can't help not having self control.

Abstinence does work. What you are saying is that people won't practice abstinence. So, if people don't want it, is that good reason for the church to acquiesce?

Abstinence does NOT work because MOST people do NOT practice it. Our morals did not go to hell in the 1960's, they were ALWAYS this way, that's why there were backstreet abortions for thousands of years, girls who "left town" for no known reason, etc.

People who think that telling people to not have sex is going to solve unwanted pregnancies and the spread of disease are fooling themselves, to put it mildly, and those who preach it for others are morons.

Okay. We will tell everyone not to have sex before marriage. We will also tell married couples not to have sex if they cannot afford more children.

Of course! Why didn't we think of that before!

Just like I said...there are those that try to justify it by saying they cannot control themselves.

They're the same people looking for the government to "save them".

If those of us that believe that we can control ourselves and we are responsible for our own actions are morons, what are those that are just looking for an excuse to justify everything and can't help themselves?

We can enforce this with huge doses of good old Catholic guilt, shame and fear. That will keep the poor human fools in line!

Tomorrow: Pope announces a Flat Tax for his vision of a Flat World.

Typical left reply. In the sentence that you conveniently cut out, I said they still existed, but not in the numbers they do today.

You can argue that, but you'd just be making 'facts' up to do so.
