During January (before the paper went web-only), the P-I online version averaged 1.7 million page views daily. It sounds like that number has increased since the paper version was shut down (don't know if that will continue of course).

A story on the very issue of newspapers across the country going under:

"At least 120 newspapers in the U.S. have shut down since January 2008, according to Paper Cuts, a Web site tracking the newspaper industry. More than 21,000 jobs at 67 newspapers have vaporized in that time, according to the site."
