As stated in the other thread, Moats and Officer Powell both did a poor job of handling the situation. However, I will add to this that when hospital security and staff explained everything to the officer, he should have let Moats go and left the ticket on the windshield.

Personally, I would have tried to call in a police escort (as I've done once) before running red lights. And if no escort was given, I probably would have run the lights and stop signs as well. The cop was in the right for writing the tickets. He was *not* in the right for keeping Moats after the situation was explained.

I am very sad that he was not able to properly say goodbye to his Mother-In-Law. In fact, if I was Moats, I'd be in jail for assault. At least Officer Powell would not have to travel far for treatment....

I've posted the video. If, however, you wish to give the cop every benefit of doubt, then I suggest you don't watch it.

I will reserve judgement until I get a chance to see the video.

Notwithstanding the fact that this video is available for anyone who wishes to see it, I'm certainly glad that the city's police chief had the courage to see the video. His observation--similar to that of most people not looking for an excuse to find fault with Mr. Moats--is that the officer, while technically having the authority to pull over Mr. and Mrs. Moats, exhibited horrible judgment thereafter and served as an embarassment to the rest of the police department.

You are right, I will not. Because despite you seeing the light and removing the pro pig post you also told us what side you are on. The pig is wrong. Dead wrong. Siding with him/them shows treason and suggests hoping for a full police state.

But we all appreciate you removing that offensive post.

How can you do that? Moets might have not had enough time for EMS let alone wait for an escort which is why he took the situation into his own hands to drive to the hospital. Seconds count !! That one extra call looking for an escort might have been lost valuble time so I cant agree with that part. Besides I will bet my house (despite it's losing value) that an escort would never be granted by the almightly Goddesses who think that badge makes them God.

But !!!!! I would be sitting in the cell right next to you with my arm around you if the pig did that to me. Trust me when I say I would have beaten that useless waste of human flesh to an unrecognizable pulp. I might be in jail but at least I would be considered a hero by those citizens who are sick and tired of the pig brutality going on today. Some one has to fight back.

You are a seriously disturbed individual. I hope you seek professional help for the hatred that you carry inside you.

It's clear that this rather punk-ish officer was concerned more about stroking his own ego than he was Mr. and Mrs. Moats creeping through a red light, with hazards flashing, trying to get to the bedside of Mrs. Moats' dying mother.

An officer and a gentleman would have asked Mr. Moats to go up to the hospital room and tend to his family, while the officer wrote the ticket and served it on Mr. Moats later. A punk cop would have purposely detained Mr. Moats until his mother-in-law died, just to teach that [******] an attitude lesson.

Had that been a luxury SUV being driven by the husband of Jenna Bush, and they crept through a red light with hazards flashing, desparately trying to get to the bedside of a dying grandma Barbara Bush, it damned sure wouldn't have turned out this way.
I totally agree. This officer needs to be fired. Although Mr. Moats ran a red light, he was only trying to get his wife to his Mother-in-Law's bedside as she was dying. The officer should have used discretion; something of which he apparently has none.

This officer has no right being on duty -- he should be fired.
And not because this was an NFL star.

A police officer has to be able to show native intelligence. He needs to be able to think on his feet, assess different situations and understand the concept of extenuating circumstances.
This cop is a friggin' moron. He showed none of the above. What he did show was 'little man' syndrome -- give a 'little' guy power and suddenly he is the 'big' man that will make your life hell just because he can.
And he has a gun.
Fire him. This man shouldn't even be allowed to become a mall cop. He is a danger to the public and to himself.
