A tax revolt, eh? Well, what with Tax Day being--great cooga-mooga, it's today!--we shouldn't have long to wait before finding out if it was real, or just a lot of talk. (I vote for the latter. Despite the screaming and yelling, most of it on my computer screen, I haven't seen a lot of evidence in the real world for a tax revolt).
To the people participating in the tea parties, the protest is far from a fad but is rather a forum to voice their dissent at a broken promise and huge deficit spending.
The broken promise: "They sent us here to usher in a new era of responsibility in Washington -- to start living within our means again, and being straight with them about where their tax dollars are going, and empowering them with the information they need to hold all of us, their representatives, accountable."
The huge deficit spendin: A 20-year-old today will pay $114,000 just on the interest for this debt.
FYI, since this is a workday most people are.. as you might guess... at work. I understand the symbolism behind planning the events for April 15, but they should have done it on the weekend or something.
I went to the one in Oklahoma City. This one was at noon at the State Capitol buildilng. I have no way to estimate how many people were there, but I can say "a lot". There was a lot of flag and sign waving going on. There were speeches and helicopters overhead. It was actually a pretty good crowd who are just tired of all the bailouts and taxes.
Some do and some don't. There were quite a few held at noon up here in NH. My husband and I attended one during our lunch hour-from 12-1. We plan on attending another one- the largest one in the state-which is being held tonight after work.
If Obama Is Smart He Will Directly Acknowledge the Tea Party Movement
With so many independents (and perhaps conservatives) voting for Obama in 2008, it would stand to reason that Obama should directly acknowledge the Tea Party movement as a function of democracy and the right of the people to take its government to task for fiscal responsibility.
Anything other than a direct acknowledgement by the President would signify to the people that arguably helped ensure his election that he could care less.

Acknowledgement through a White House press release is not a direct response.
Do you agree or disagree?
A one-day protest is not a movement..
That's like saying a KKK rally is a movement. The President doesn't have to respond directly to everybody who decides to have a rally.

How? no matter what statement he makes it will not change whats already been done. No president has changed direction because of protests. So when you say acknowledge, how and to what result?
I believe this movement will carry through the 2010 elections. If you don't think Congress is closely watching this, you're living in a perpetual snooze.
