Manhattan will no longer be the playground of the rich. Those of us that were here in the 70s, and not in LA, will remember what a dangerous place NYC was. Nothing lasts forever and I am afraid our politicians are sending us back to the bad old days.

NYC is an overrated craphole. My parents live in NJ and it is unbelievable how rude, unhelpful, hot tempered, stressed out and unfriendly most people are. NJ has the biggest concentration of [MOD CUT/offensive] I have ever seen, bunch of rude, loud, inconsiderate people and they speak with a very annoying accent "Gimme a cawfee, uh!. " How ya doooooing? They will fight and argue over just about anything, great place!

Actually DFW Airport is so much a better location to go worldwide than NY. We are about 2 hours from each coast and with China & Russia developing economically your argument of a quick trip to Europe is pretty lame. We are closer to South American and most of the world compared to NYC.

Sounds a lot like class envy...
One man's 'class envy' is another man's 'progressive taxation'...

The Tax Foundation - New York Governor David Paterson’s Tax and Fee Proposals a Mixed Bag

We all know whats been happening to California lately..

Further increasing New York's top rate would put the state even farther out of step with its competitors, encourage high income people to work less or leave the state, and make state revenues more volatile, as revenues from progressive income taxes are highly sensitive to economic shifts. Governor Paterson's instinct to resist political pressure for an income tax increase is a good one
Wow you just proved you don't care about the facts. Here is the whole section, maybe if you become intellectually honest you might actually convince someone that you have a point.

Quote:
One notably positive feature of Governor Paterson's plan is what's not in it: any increase in New York State's top marginal income tax rate. While the state's top tax rate is a moderate 6.85%, New York City residents face the highest top rate in the country, 10.498% (6.85% state plus 3.648% city). Increases currently on the table could push that rate to 11.375%, a full point higher than California's 10.3%.3

Um, the part that you put in bold was not in the original plan but now is being proposed, did you miss the topic of this thread?

Talk about lame, there isn't one first world country in the americas south of the US. Your argument is very flawed whe considering where the developed nations are.

Completely and totally and emphatically disagree with you...

Today's NYC is NOTHING LIKE NYC of the 70's... they are definitely two separate worlds...

Guilliani and Bloomberg did a tremendous job in cleaning the city up, improving the quality of life (tremendously), and in spurring new construction...

You really don't have a clue what you're talking about if you think that the near-bankrupt and crime ridden NYC of the 70's still exists today...

Not a clue...

The whole country had soaring crime rates, LA had some of the worst during the same period. Give us something unique to NYC to prove your point.

NJ is very undesirable as NYers are concerned, even its most desirable parts.
