Afganistan is desirable real estate because of their oil routes and proximity to the Caspian Sea. That's why Russia wanted to control it, and why we trained and gave weapons to the Muhadeen to fight them, who later morphed into the Taliban.
Saudi Arabia is where most of the 'terrorists' came from if you believe the flight list, so why didn't we attack them? the Taliban was desperately trying to hand Osama to Bush, who refused him, for obvious reasons.

IT'S ALL ABOUT OIL!

None of this would have any effect on the really important things in our lives.

No, I'm not supporting the war to lower the unemployment levels but surely if you bring them all back simply to stop "wasting billions" then the effect would also need to be looked at.

But see Bush couldn't (or wouldn't) go after the REAL culprits of 9/11 because he (and his whole family) were literally in bed with them.

So they figured...what the hell...let's go after Saddam and the Iraqis instead...
smells like a vendetta to me

I agree. The Afghanis are just as big a threat to Americans as the Viet Cong were. We should hang in there with this war until we have at least as many American dead before we pull out!

It's apparent that liberals should be in charge of America's national security.

America could bring our troops home from all foreign soil, close our military bases worlwide (including those within our borders), open our borders to whomever wishes to come, abolish all armament and guns, and relinquish American sovereignty to the United Nations.

Let the United Nations take care of those pesky little problems posed by various little nuke-seeking dictators around the world. Knowing that the United Nations is in charge should make everyone sleep better at night, since it has been such a bastion of success thus far.
