With tensions already rising due to the Chinese navy becoming more aggressive in asserting its territorial claims in the South China Sea, the U.S. Navy seems to have yet another reason to be deeply concerned.

After years of conjecture, details have begun to emerge of a "kill weapon" developed by the Chinese to target and destroy U.S. aircraft carriers.

Berkeley and some university professors (like the one in Columbia U.) and students will be happy to hear this news.

Mach 10?? It sounded like a cruise missile until I read this. If it is ballistic, then anti-missile batteries could kill it. I'd be very suprised at a Mach 10 vehicle that wasn't ballistic. Imagine the heat load on that thing at 200 feet asl.

This is not good news at all.

I wonder what stolen technology enabled the Chinese to develop this weapons system...and who helped them get it...?

According to defense sources, both China and Russia are developing new weapon systems. Russia for example, has developed (unknown if operational yet) a high speed, anti submarine torpedo. This weapon is designed to travel underwater at over 200 mph, making current submarine defenses obsolete. Russians were also rumored to have a new aircraft carrier buster cruise missile. It is supposed to be fired at low speeds as regular cruise missiles, but when approaching its target, it uses a second stage which accelerates it to Mach 3.
