Why am I not shocked she is a Republican?
Came from a realiable news source. If you're not sure, you can Google it and I'm sure it will come up on multiple sources.

Texas lawmaker: Asians should change their names to make them ‘easier for Americans to deal with.’
On Tuesday, State Rep. Betty Brown (R) caused a firestorm during House testimony on voter identification legislation when she said that Asian-Americans should change their names because they’re too hard to pronounce:

“Rather than everyone here having to learn Chinese — I understand it’s a rather difficult language — do you think that it would behoove you and your citizens to adopt a name that we could deal with more readily here?” Brown said.

Brown later told [Organization of Chinese Americans representative Ramey] Ko: “Can’t you see that this is something that would make it a lot easier for you and the people who are poll workers if you could adopt a name just for identification purposes that’s easier for Americans to deal with?”

Yesterday, Brown continued to resist calls to apologize. Her spokesman said that Democrats “want this to just be about race.”

Why would say this? I've read several news stories and even watched the recording of this hearing and nowhere does she suggest forcing people to use "American names". I hate misinformation and lies. Why just make that up? It's very disingenuous and undermines everything you have to say.

That said - what a moron. I'm not sure exactly where, but this woman falls somewhere between extremely ignorant and outright racist.

I don't think it has anything to do with whether you are a Republican or Democrat.

It's outright outrageous.

smallville it shouldn't have anything to do with R or D, but R's do alienate themselves with xenophobic stigmas. Unfortunate fact of speech habits they've got for years. Ask the minorities themselves and they'll usually point at R's.

Ohh let me rephrase--- we will now give the first name of Betty to all chinese folks. When Betty Brown goes to a convention, people can yell betty in a crowd and everyone will get up.
