I think it is the best solution to a horrible problem. The organization, as stated in the article.. screens it's squatters and requires them to do the "sweat equity" in keeping up the empty home.. including paying their utility bills etc.
It's better than an empty dilapitated home on your block.. and the banks are not doing anything about the homes they own.. nor working things out with those they foreclosed on.
It's not ideal.. but it's better than leaving it to rot and giving homeless people a place to live if only for a little while.

Another article in prior thread regarding cleveland forclosures... the banks abandoned the properties after the evictions happened, then the city was chasing down the former owner to pay to have the house torn down after it was vandalized/ stripped. Not a whole lot of sense going on IMO. Banks taking losses with reduced payments until this can all be straightened out is better than taking complete losses.
You have got to be kidding ! that would be toooooo! simple , our educated leaders would never think that way . In doing so they would actually be "HELPING " people . And you know they can't do that . they can only act like they are tryingto help.
Fighter I do understand these loans are complicated by the games they played, but ultimately, I don't think the homeowners should take the lions share of the blame for the bigger mess. If this were an insurance claim where they assign blame in %, I think 60% of the fault goes to the predatory lenders/ illegit business practices, 20% to the govt itself for facilitating, and 20% to the borrower. If they've made earnest efforts to pay, I think that should count more. So many unemployed, I don't even think refinancing at this point is going to work out quite right.

So, theft - robbery - criminal acts are OK with you?
This seems to be entitlement at work. Remember, those folks are entitled to a home. It doesn't necessarily have to be owned by them, nor do they need to pay rent. There is no one to stop them; if anything there are now groups that help them squat in abandoned homes as well as media reporting of this.
