I smoked it.. I don't think it's bad since you can still kind of control yourself from doing anything crazy, i sure don't think it's healthy though.
I say it wouldn't hurt to be legal
I think alcohol is worst, but that's legal. Alcohol can have an uncontrollable affect on you while with weed you are at least aware of what's going on.
I could less about any total BS links you have done by people with an agenda. I personally have an aunt in her early 50s who is "semi-stoned" from this stuff. Her life has been a total waste since the 1970s. I HAD a second cousin who died in his early 20s and I have a childhood friend who is STILL addicted to more hardcore stuff - both of them started with "innocent" marijuana.
there not done by people with agendas. i can even give you links from the national cancer institute (yea, but they have an agenda too, right?) i have links from the washington post, science daily, fox news, geffen school of medicine, cnn, msnbc ect. but tthose aren't reliable enough i guess.
and another thing. i find it laughable that people actually believe marijuana makes you do other drugs. that whole "they started with weed, so its a gateway" argument is a load of crap. if they smoke crack or whatever, then its their fault and nothing/no one elses.
ask yourself this. if marijuana is a gateway then how is it possible that marijuana use rises each year and hard drug use (crack, meth, cocaine ect) drops? crack and cocaine has been slowly dying since the early 90's and meth use has been dropping since 05'. but yet, marijuana use has never been higher. i read somewhere that almost a quarter of all americans smoke weed everyday. so, if the gateway theory is correct, then why hasn't hard drug use risen?
i'm sorry for all the posts, but i see people are worried about stoned drivers. if you look at places where marijuana is decriminalized (california, oregon, washington ect) do these states have higher percentages of car accidents than other states in which weed isn't legal? another thing is this; even if weed is illegal or legal, people are still going to drive high. making something illegal doesn't make it go away. people are going to drive high regardless of marijuana decriminalization. so that argument is moot.
I know that there are some advocates for legalizing that believe that marijuana is the great health elixir, that if you've got diabetes or cancer or athletes foot all you really need to do is take a few bong hits, and there are others who believe that it causes you to lose focus, and the smoke will cause lung cancer, and if you smoke pot you could later become a heroin addict or a crackhead, but neither of those arguments means much to whether or not it should be legalized.
Our tax dollars are being spent to enforce the fact that marijuana is illegal. So from a financial standpoint, is it worth it? People are in jail because of pot, we taxpayers have to pay for that, and because it's illegal, it brings a certain criminal element to the table. What would be the consequences of making pot legal? Would it mean that kids would be getting stoned on the playgrounds before school started? Would it mean that bankers would be making horrible mistakes, squandering all their money, and have to be bailed out by the government?
Personally, I think constant marijuana smoking is probably unhealthy, and doesn't enhance relationships or work performance..Do I think that marijuana has a lot of benefits? No. But neither do Doritos or Coca Cola or polyester or People magazine
Marijuana is a relatively victimless crime. I don't care what you want to do to your own body, I don't think that's the government's job either.
Advocating for or against legalization has nothing to do with whether you have smoked it or not.
By that logic I could say I don't care whether rape is legal or not because I have never been raped.
The fact is, prohibition of marijuana causes considerable social strife including the diversion of law enforcement away from much more serious crime which ultimately affects everyone in society.
ABQConvict
WTF??? What kind of comparison is that???
I say legalize it, but than you have to think about all the people doing time now because of them being caught with weed on them.
You know, I've met lots of intelligent weedheads, they're especially good when it comes to science.
Prohibitionists have always been proven to be some of the biggest idiots on the face of the earth. It sure worked when alcohol was illegal... oh wait it just made the mob/organized crime rich. It's the same story with illegal drugs. Yes, they are bad for you but that does not matter cause people will always be doing drugs regardless of their legality. If drugs were legalized/regulated overdoses could be prevented as addicts would know the quality of the drugs they were taking rather than depending on their dealers word of mouth. If we legalized drugs billions would be saved on the war on drugs and could be put to better uses.
If America is free country, then shouldn't we as Americans have the right to do what we want with our bodies? Would it not be better that all that money addicts spend on drugs go to legit businessmen/government(through taxes) rather then leaving the country and going to violent drug lords in South America.
Of course all those billions we spend on the war on drugs really has not accomplished much as I and millions of others can literally pick up a bag marijuana in 15 to 20 minutes. So I guess in all honesty it really does not matter if they are legal or not. If there is a market for it someone will be making a buck off it.
To be honest I am not 100% sure about my aunt as she is older than me. My uncle (my aunt's older brother) has payed for her to go to rehab several times but she keeps sliding back down. I DO KNOW about my cousin and my friend as I grew up and hung out with them when it was going on. Both were totally clean cut kids that started using marijuana first - so there is really no theory needed to proven here.
Ahh well, I will take a 12 year academically backed study by a public university suggesting otherwise over your 2 person sample.
