Its pretty much a haven for pirates with a huge number of recruitees... They have cost the world several millions over with their piracy with armed gunmen... is it time to take over and jail them?
I hear we would be greeted as liberators and it would pretty much pay for itself.

WONDERFUL idea....JUST what we need! An angry, dysfunctional, violent group of new American 'beneficiaries', eligible for all sorts of US Government aid, furious at us for butting in, killing a few 'Somali freedom fighters', as we fend off charges of 'interfering with Black Africa', 'invading an Islamic' (or partially Islamic) nation', and have to FORCE democracy on them at gun point, as we 'bleed' Somalia of its resources, and the world unites in condemning us for 'cultural insensitivity', and 'shooting up the place'.
Boy, does THAT sound like loads of fun!!!

LMAO, well put! Somalia is beyond redemption at this point and the US can't do a THING to change it. Short of scorched Earth peace through superior firepower and dead US troops. No thanks. The Somalis will have to sort that out on their own. We can ,however, keep the bandits at bay on the sea. Somalia is kind of like the modern day Tortuga, a safe haven for the lawless that NOBODY wants to try and go into. When the pirates come out to play on the sea, they can be engaged and repelled, but going into the home port, in force, makes even the military cringe. Just let the merchant ships arm themselves to repell boarders, and keep a few Navy recources in the region and keep on truckin'.

Yes, let's go take over Somalia as we fight in Iraq and Afghanistan... we did a great job in the 90's in trying to stabilize the government in Somalia so let's do it again!

Oh, FYI the UN has taken care of North Korea just this afternoon with another of their letters about how bad they were for firing that rocket against the orders of the UN. NOw that leaves us with Iran and the Israelis will be glad to get rid of them if we demand it.
I wonder how many here know how long the Somali border is on the seaward side. It might do some some good to look that up.
