Can take the Federal Government sometimes years to figure it out.
Pretty much. This is what happens when you have a bloated government with many ideologies trying to dictate it. People get paid who haven't worked for an agency in ages, various accounting errors...
People would be directing their anger much more effectively if they directed it at the real culprit: traitorous American business.
And themselves... they want cheap goods and large paychecks without producing anything and to live beyond their means. Ain't gonna happen. You're going to have to pay your comeuppance at some point.
For the record, the requirement for ARRA (stimulus bill) contractors to use E-Verify was not in the original House version of the bill. It was added as an amendment sponsored by the very conservative Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA), who happens to be a senior member of the House Appopriations Committee. The provision was left out of the Senate version and not brought back in conference.
E-Verify itself is basically not ready for prime-time. About 1 in every 70 US employers is a current participant in the voluntary program, and the system (despite the claims of DHS) is widely noted for its errors and unreliability. The poster child for system failures may be the restaurateur in Arizona (where state law makes use of E-Verify mandatory for many employers) who sought to hire his own US-born daughter, only to learn from E-Verify that she was not eligible to work in the US. Even according to DHS, it can take many months for a misclassified worker to get his or her records repaired. With tens of millions of new hires coming online under ARRA, the E-Verify requirement would have added little more than substantial delay and cost to the program.
