Mexico is protesting what it says is a whopper of an insult. An advertisement for Burger King's chili-flavored "Texican" burger that has run in Europe shows a small wrestler dressed in a cape resembling a Mexican flag. The wrestler teams up with a lanky American cowboy twice his height to illustrate the cross-border blend of flavors.
"The taste of Texas with a little spicy Mexican," a narrator's voice says.
The much-taller cowboy boosts the wrestler up to reach high shelves and clean tall windows, while the Mexican helps the cowboy open a jar.
This story surprises me on a NUMBER of points. I thought Mexicans didn't object to using flags in silly ways....I thought Americans kept Mexicans DOWN, not 'boosted them up'....I thought Americans didn't need Mexican help, whether to open jars or do anything else...and I thought most Europeans were SICK and TIRED of 'American Cowboys', no matter WHAT message they were trying to 'pitch'.
Guess I was wrong on all counts. I don't eat much fast food, so I suppose I can't be held accountable.

Now that sounds like an excuse if I ever heard one. . .

Well, then the solution seems obvious. Let Mexico ban Burger King from within its borders. (Whatever Burger King does outside those borders then becomes none of Mexico's business).

Europeans don't "get" racial politics. They never have and they never will. When I lived in Holland, I ran across a couple of shops that specialized in "American" artifacts--almost exclusively lawn jockeys and other such sundry and racist items. A popular dessert on the menu in the border towns along Holland and Belgium was something called "Tête de Nègre": "NegroHead" The dessert was vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. Europeans are amazingly stupid about these things.
