You are pretty much correct on that!
Did you know that watching TV and listening to a teacher give a lesson (lecturing), have pretty much the same amount of brain stimulation????
And people wonder why the kids aren't getting any smarter....

Depends on the game...one of our kids love to play the PC games and XBOX and is a honor student. He can handle it very well and is playing a lot of strategy war games on the PC. In these they are speaking more than 1 language and has been able to learn a lot of German and some French...so aside from shooting he does learn other things.

in moderation they can be ok. It seems instead of living life people and it isnt limited to kids, people sit inside , interact with no one and build these fantasy lands. Some interact when they join others on a network to play the same game. So you get people that contribute nothing to the social well bing, they do nothing to generate an income, and little to increase their understanding or compassion. I guess I would not limit this critique to video games but would include TV also.

just b.c people aren't buying houses from you, doesn't mean they are worthless ...
there are also many laws and stuff that say kids under like 16 or 14 or what not can't work.. so how would they generate an income?
do you want to force people to work? like communists do? either work or go to jail is their motto..
at least we have the option to not work in the US, but if this health care gets passed there might not be anymore... it'll be the first tax on living

Too much time watching TV and/or playing video games hampers kids' creativity and limits their physical activity, IMO. I subscribe to the John Rosemond rule of no more than 5 hours of TV/video games per week. When the weather is bad and they can't play outside, my kids make arts and crafts or play imaginitive games together.
I know several children--with TVs in their bedrooms and few limits on TV viewing and/or video gaming--who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities. The have short attention spans and lack creative thinking. They also dislike books and are behind in reading, preferring instead to be entertained by what's appropriately called the boob tube.
Now most Friday nights, our entire family watches an appropriate movie together. It's great for family bonding and much-needed relaxation after a long work/school week, but we're fully aware that we're "vegging out."

Not everybody is about the F owrd and S word in German and the K word in Dutch!

It's not just video games, it's technology as a whole that is becoming detrimental to the youth. Pretty soon kids are not going to know how to socialize with other humans anymore. They will be standing right next to someone, totally expressionless and texting or chatting to them on some type of handheld device instead of talking.

In moderation everything is OK.
I was a latch-key kid so until my brother came home from school (about 45 minutes later) I had to stay inside. That was my video game time. I played games that involved reading though so my mom never complained. I could spend hours playing Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud or Jeopardy If I would have had the internet back then I probably would have spent a good chunk of time playing Literati

For me as a parent, they were very good for one of my children. I used time on the games as rewards for my son, who was ADHD. It sure as hell got him to get his homework and chores done in order to earn that game time.
It can be a really good tool when used correctly.
