It's an issue because lots of people still have strong reactions to homosexuals. Most people strongly prefer to have a heterosexual child. Sexual orientation isn't like eye color or hair color. It matters a great deal to most people. I wish it didn't, but I'm just reporting the reality to you.

I think the question "why does it matter" was only in reference to Adam's talent and singing ability. It's not as if he's performing sexually explicit acts onstage. Of course most people prefer to have a heterosexual child. Don't you think that's because of the stigma & discrimination the child will have to endure his or her life? I admit that, if I had a son, I would hope he liked girls, not boys. Everyone wants a "normal" child. However, it wouldn't affect the way I felt about my child if I found out he was gay. You can't turn someone into something he's not.

I wish it were solely due to altruism, but no, most people want a heterosexual child mainly because they want a "normal" child, as you said. Worrying about the stigma and discrimination is secondary.

I don't take it personally at all. Even I would prefer a heterosexual child if I were to have one. I'm with you, though: If I had a son who turned out gay, I would accept him completely. We don't always get exactly what we want in life; we just have to make the best of what we've got.
