This is what they had to say....

The possible passage of new restrictions on firearms and the return of military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks.

Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

Proposed imposition of firearms restrictions and weapons bans likely would attract new members into the ranks of rightwing extremist groups, as well as potentially spur some of them to begin planning and training for violence against the government. The high volume of purchases and stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by rightwing extremists in anticipation of restrictions and bans in some parts of the country continue to be a primary concern to law enforcement.

Returning veterans possess combat skills and experience that are attractive to rightwing extremists. DHS/I&A is concerned that rightwing
extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to boost their violent capabilities.

Paralleling the current national climate, rightwing extremists during the
1990s exploited a variety of social issues and political themes to increase group visibility and recruit new members. Prominent among these themes were the militia movement’s opposition to gun control efforts, criticism of free trade agreements (particularly those with Mexico), and highlighting perceived government infringement on civil liberties as well as white supremacists’ longstanding exploitation of social issues such as abortion, inter-racial crimes, and same-sex marriage. During the 1990s, these issues contributed to the growth in the number of domestic rightwing terrorist and extremist groups and an increase in violent acts targeting government facilities, law enforcement officers, banks, and infrastructure sectors.

Historically, domestic rightwing extremists have feared, predicted, and anticipated a cataclysmic economic collapse in the United States. Prominent antigovernment conspiracy theorists have incorporated aspects of an impending economic collapse to intensify fear and paranoia among like-minded individuals and to attract recruits during times of economic uncertainty. Conspiracy theories involving declarations of martial law, impending civil strife or racial conflict, suspension of the U.S. Constitution, and the creation of citizen detention camps often incorporate aspects of a failed economy. Antigovernment conspiracy theories and “end times” prophecies could motivate extremist individuals and groups to stockpile food, ammunition, and weapons. These teachings also have been linked with the radicalization of domestic extremist individuals and groups in the past, such as violent Christian Identity organizations and extremist members of the militia movement.

Sounds like the result of Republican and neoconservative policies of the last 40 years. Democrats did not institute the Patriot act or invade Iraq or Afghanistan. Given the timing this, slightly paranoid but basically accurate description, was written during the Bush administration.

They had good reason to fear the fanatics they had created. The fanatics nominated the candidates the finished the last election as First Losers. This was a good thing because our country can return to being "of ALL the people" not just the military contractors and speculative bankers.

Instead of bringing everyone together, Obama and his staff are dividing us.

This is actually a result of government oppression. The government has gotten too big and has invaded too many lives. Freedoms have been lost by Democratic government controls. So true right wing freedoms and liberties have been ignored in the name of government control.

It is only a natural and logical reaction to the tyranny. What I like the most is that there are enough people with brains to see this, fight against it, instead of following the Big Brother, "lemmings to the cliff mentality" that seems so pervasive on the left.

I pay attention to my liberties and have not noticed any loss. I can still buy and carry a gun in all the usual places. I can get a drivers' license and drive all the usual places. I can apply for any job I am qualified for without being eliminated for race, creed or sex. I can use the internet without censorship except for child pornography (good idea btw). I can even call for the overthrow of the government without getting jailed.

Just exactly what freedoms have been lost?

Report commissioned in the last days of the Bush Administration. We got one here in Missouri too. Look for these in any State where a Republican was replaced by a Democrat. Chuck Colson's probably grinning.

Are they talking about the mainstream and cable news media? That's where I have been hearing about the crisis, etc. My guess is that the majority of citizens would say the same.

OK, I totally supported the Tea Parties but I'm not a radical, extremist, personally don't own a gun, etc. However - their statement has to make me wonder..... If the issues have contributed to the growth of "groups" and the govt is worried about it, don't you think the govt would get the idea that a large number of citizens don't like what they are doing? Additionally, look how many people complain about things/don't agree with Fed actions but never make their voices heard.

Don't you think the Feds would think - we work for The People, The People are getting so angry about what we are doing that many more of them are making their voices heard... so perhaps we should listen to We The People.

(OK, I know - I am dreaming )

Well, the Feds certainly had quite a hand in helping to set up the current economic situation we are now in (along with greed of financial markets and institutions, The People, and well intended actions which went wrong).

The people I know who are stockpiling are not rightwind extremists - they are ordinary citizens concerned that govt is going to make ammo so expensive people won't be able to afford it.

What I am stunned by is the number of people who are getting concealed weapon permits. People who never even owned a gun before (and for some of them - it is pretty scary to think they would be armed). They are rushing to do it because... well, I'm not sure why. It's something about the govt taking away guns but not sure how the logic works.

Wonder if the Texas gov has been added to that list.
