What I think is that Trump is an idiot. Ignore the rules that nations have about armed ships entering their ports and you will come to think that the pirates are simply beggars asking for change as they attempt to wash your windshield.

I don't recall who but as someone once said; for every complex problem there is one answer that is short, simple and WRONG.

Shipping companies are first of all businesses, they are in business to make a profit. They, and more importantly their insurance companies (including AIG) have made the business decision that paying is the most cost effective way, at present to handle the problem.

A little research (other than reading rants on C-D) would show you that the insurance would be voidable following any shooting incident if the crew were armed, and that escalating to violence (the pirates have yet to resort to violence) is going to make it worse.

The ships do accelerate to high speed when they see suspected boats approaching, unfortunately a seagoing ship cannot match a small boat for speed or manueverability.

Trump needs to go back to being a "reality" star and let people who know what they are doing handle this. Just because you are on TV doesn't mean you know anything about this.

How come the right wingers, who routinely bash "Hollywood" for having an opinion on the war, global warming, Darfur or anything else, are not on here bashing this empty headed twit for his idiotic opinion.

People have been killed, I mean hostages have been killed, so what is your criteria of violence?

Not according to the NRA...wait...I think that's what they say...that the laws take guns out of honest citizens' hands but the thieves somehow will still have them.

Not quite: The Russians set them adrift alrighty, but steamed off a little distance and shelled the boat, which took a first shot direct hit. That ended it.

Or see how little knowledge Trump gets of an issue before he opens his trap. People already hire armed guards for their ships, and they'd been doing so for months before he pretended to be an authority.

Here's one example, note the date:

Maersk Alabama Thwarts Another Pirate Attack Using Armed Guards*|*gCaptain

Trump appears to know jack sh.t about things outside his bubble of expertise. I know intellectualism is elitist, but couldn't we at least look for candidates that know fact from fiction?
