When I ask this, I mean this:

I am a Democrat. I am for gay marriage, pro choice, Universal Health Care, etc...

But I also agree with some Republican stances. Such as anti welfare, death penalty, stricter on illegal immigration.

If you are a Republican, are there any liberal stances you agree with? Maybe you are a Republican but believe gays should have marriage?

Or maybe you are a liberal who is also for death penalty?

Discuss.

I'm against illegal immigration and affirmitive action and I do think liberals go overboard in blaming right wingers of racism.

That being said, I'm interesed in why you are anti-welfare? Seeing that it has time limits on the benefits these nowadays. The benefits do run out. How should welfare be handled?

I'm mostly a Democrat, but I have some strong libertarian leanings. The problem with the Republican Party is that I don't see them as libertarian at all. They've proven that they're not fiscally responsible, and when it comes to social issues, forget it. It's almost always Republicans who come up with the anti-sex legislation, whether it's against gays, porn, sex toys (illegal in Texas and other states up until recently). They also seem to defend religious symbols being used on government property. I strongly disagree with that.

Republicans are also heavily against same-sex marriage and civil unions. A Quinnipiac Poll taken last year found that Democrats support same-sex marriage 47 - 43 percent, while Republicans oppose it 80 - 14 percent.

So, maybe in another time, I would have been able to identify with Republicans more, but not now. If there's any party other than the Democratic Party with whom I identify, it's the Libertarian Party. From my perspective, the Republican Party is the anti-freedom party.

LoL. I had a thread on this before. It is way too much for me to type up again.

Basically, I see too many take advantage of it. I have listed many things. Like one man trying to get me to run the welfare cash card for an Xbox 360. No joke.

There is much more. I do understand that people need help when they hit hard times. That is understandable and I want to help people who need help. But when people are purposing having kids just to get more benefits..!

I'm a conservative who leans republican on most issues. I do support some short-term public programs to help folks get back on their feet, although I think there should be more accountability and budgetary oversight . I also support expansions in mass transit and very militantly anti-smoker's rights. I'm sure there's other things but those are all I can think of now.

Yes. I can understand what you mean.

SO basically you are saying you agree with the economical savings that Republicans should have, right?

But socially, you are more Democratic?

Yeah kinda like what I said right?

People who purposely have more babies to get more benefits? You are for helping people who NEED it not ABUSE it?

I am not a republican, but am more a constitutional conservative. That said, I support gay marraige, marijuana legalization, and environmental protection, etc... No one party can encompass the beliefs of the truly independantly minded.

Agreeing with some stances from other parties is not an issue for me; I've no problem picking/choosing things I agree with.

Having been an independent for almost 30 years, it was the PERFORMANCE of the Bush administration that made me sign up as a DEM so I could participate in the Colorado caucuses in winter 2008, as it was obvious that we had to take back our country from that bunch. Bush, et al, fully failed to live up to customary GOP "bedrock" stances on balanced budgets, no foreign entanglements, fiscal sanity, etc.

When a party says they are for this, that or the other, it comes under the heading of "promises promises" and always remains to be seen how they deliver. Once any of them are in power, they do as they please and we get to go suck eggs if we don't like it. How many Senators and Reps do we boot out normally? Not many, though the Bush debacle caused the GOP to lose a lot of seats in 2006 and 2008.

I am torn about the bailout though I knew it would help the economy. I don't like helping those corporations.
