That is a great video. It proves that no matter what your beginning is, if you want it, you can do it.This is not the sort of testimony Obama wants.

She took her power back and the Dems don't like that. They love to hand out the programs to keep people depending on them. That way they are have the guarantee of their vote.

They are just the modern day slave masters. The chains they now use are welfare checks and Government hand outs.

Please. How can that be the case when fomenting the very conditions for this kind of testimony to come about in the first place was the very cause for which Obama dedicated himself during the early part of his career as an organizer?

Because this speaker makes very clear that government is not the answer to your problems or your neighbors problems just as government wasn't the answer to her problems. Government doesn't make your dreams come true. She didn't get two college degrees, a job, a house with a pool, the ability to support herself and her children at the hands of the government, it was by her own hand.

Obama thinks government IS THE ONLY ANSWER and he has never said anything different. He has never done one thing other than to grow government and encourage more folks to suck at the teet of government instead of doing what this young woman has done...tear herself away from the system that enslaved her, her parents, her friends and neighbors and find out what opportunities lie outside of governmet handouts and bailouts. She proves that everything Obama wants for this country and government is wrong and that there is a much better way.

I'm curious as to why the term "white trash" is never called out. Can you imagine if someone called poor, black people "black trash"? Why is this acceptable and the norm?

As to the OP, I'd imagine that most welfare recipients (black, white, etc) voted for Obama. They're pandering to the folks that need help and trying to make them dependent on the government.

We won't dare call that socialism though, right? That's not what socialist countries do, right? Hmm....

I expect that you are correct, vec101. She simply used that as a symbol of a "better life". It simply shows a lack of class on her part to focus on something as shallow (no pun intended) and tacky as a swimming pool as her motivation to get out of the ghetto.

Saying something about wanting to "give back" to her community by providing an example to the younger people, or helping her people out of poverty or something along those lines would have been infinitely better than admitting that she lusted after a pool.

I don't really care why she wanted to get out of the ghetto. So what if she wanted a swimming pool or better schools for her kids or a nicer car or something you see as more 'noble', to better herself and set an example for mankind...it doesn't take one bit away from her story that a swimming pool was her first motivation.

I grew up poor. My family certainly qualified as white trash but not because we were poor. There are plenty of poor families that aren't trashy but mine wasn't one of them.

My first motivation to get out of that lifestyle was not to better humanity but to have nicer things, a house that wasn't cold all the time, a car that didn't have holes in the floorboard, clothes that didn't come in garbage bags, shoes that weren't already formed to someone elses foot before I got them. So, see how selfish I was. Selfish and young. Too young to understand that not only could I make something better for myself but I could give back to others later on. But you can't start out that way, you have to get your life straight first and then you can think about others.

When you are in that type of situation you just can't see that far beyond it. It's hard enough to work your way out....now you want to rip on her because she didn't have noble enough motivation?!?! Once you are free and clear you do start to see more clearly...you see how you can help others, show them the same path you took to get out of dire circumstances and not only do better for yourself but your communtiy. Clearly she understands that now and instead of ripping on her for first being motivated by a swimming pool you should be applauding how far she has come, now standing in front of a large crowd, telling her story, being an inspiration to others. I'm sure that pool seems small to her now in comparison to what else she has gained and is able to give.

I'd also point out that she mentioned having an INTACT FAMILY along with the swimming pool. She clearly isn't all about material things.

I know right, a multiracial child that by looking at her doesn't appear black, no nappy hair to me, lives in a state with a very low cost of living.

But she's on stage bashing welfare folks which are usually black (I mean real black people who look like Alan Keyes) and white (not the clean cut type).

She doesn't talk about the greedy corporations who want to lower wages and demand you work more hours, doesn't discuss racism to minorities when it comes to white collar jobs but she's shucking like a true coon.

Doesn't surprise me one bit, republican idiots show no end, they want you to pull a rabbit outta a hat while they keep on trying to pull the rug from under you.

Ask her how much has wages gone up in the last 30 years, ask this idiot about outsourcing and ask her who usually gets the higher end of her paycheck and it's not her black ass.

It's the answer when you need it. You use it as a stepping stone until you are able to do better. If you seriously think that as a single mother she was able to do all of that without EVER relying on some form of government assistance in Texas, you are sadly mistaken. And to think she wouldn't even have the grace to acknowledge that speaks volumes.

That is simply your projection. Government intervention in the private sector during times of crisis is not without precedent, and is certainly preferable to simply allowing the private sector to fall at the mercy of sheer economic force. A person is enslaved by the helping hand of government only insofar as they allow themselves to be. I'm still trying to figure out how much bigger and less justified Obama's government is compared to Bush's though, and would love to know where she stands on that.
