Obama is following a well established, and wise, course of gradually disclosing/leaking damning evidence of public sector misbehaving in order to raise the public's ire over the behavior. After the public outcry for punishment reaches a certain level of intensity, Obama can step in and authorize hearings, indictments, etc., without appearing like a complete partisan. How could Cheney and his ilk not have anticipated this?

Could back fire since congressional dems knew, they are on the hook too! Dems wanted to know if the torture was enough.

You ever heard of CIA CYA? Porter Goss? Gimme a break! That article is likely sourced from CIA employees. This is a matter of law, not backroom, closed meetings. It's becoming ever more likely that all this is going to see the full light of day, and it won't be pretty for anyone involved.

You are not suggesting the ranking members of the inelligence committe did not know?

Not even the left agrees with you. Not one member denies it.

So what if they knew? What was discussed is not public knowledge yet. If they broke the law, they should be removed, including Pelosi, who has been a complete waste of protoplasm in all dimensions of her work.

I don't care who knew what, whoever signed off on this needs to be brought to trial.

In the signature neocon ways, Cheney was using pre-emptive strike by attacking Obama on every occasion and non-occasion. He was likely, hoping, that it will keep Obama administration off him as he could always point fingers back at him as the typical whiner and hypocrite that has defined his career.

More than anybody else, I'm really hoping to see Cheney's role as VP and his influence in the previous administration, investigated above all else, to set a precedent that lunacy like he brought to the table while trampling the constitution, is not repeated again.

The people responsible should be brought to trial and if found guilty, should be jailed. NOBODY is above the law.

Thanks for the article -- good read. But i don't think these congress people have the same level of criminal culpability. It's one thing to sit by and do nothing... it's another thing entirely to authorize and commit illegal acts. The congressional folks should be called out on their hypocrisy and be held morally accountable but they don't have criminal liability here.
