I have not but a cousin served as a marine in Operation Desert Storm and has killed-he has not been the same since, he suffers from PSTD and still has nightmares. Sometimes we will be sitting their talking and he just zones out and tears runs down his face-I feel so sorry for him-I never want to be in a position where I have to take someones life..
It's a simple question, but obviously inherently complicated. I understand that this is a necessarily touchy subject, and if you don't want to respond, please don't feel compelled to. I have not, thank God. I have been in a situation where somebody has died (due to a drowning), and have been in one where somebody very nearly died (due to a stabbing). I would request that nobody politicize or make partisan this thread. I'm only asking because I'm curious on how the act of taking another man's life changes your own. I doubt that I could do it unless I was in mortal danger myself...and even then, I can honestly say that I would hesitate. I have family members who are veterans of several wars who have killed, and it's obvious that it had a huge impact on their lives. To be truthful, it's an experience I hope I never have to deal with. Your thoughts?
I am not sure why would anyone ask this question? Is it simply a morbid curiousity as to what it is like? Not a good topic for an open discussion board, IMHO.
Yes. They were the enemy. No big deal.
If someone breaks into my house I will kill again and it too will be no big deal. They are the enemy.
PTSD Never knew I was supposed to get it, maybe thats why I didn't. Combat definitly isn't for everyone. I have 0 regrets about those I shot and killed, they were little more than rabid dogs as far as I was concerned, in fact they were less than dogs.

Its true, when you dehumanize a person it is easier to kill them.

All I will say about this is that if taking another person's life (whatever the circumstance) doesn't adversely effect you at some level of your psyche, you are a psychopath, plain and simple.
But you have to put that all away and let training take over when/if the time comes, get the job done and just find some way to deal with the fallout afterwards.
Thank god for the people that willingly face that emotional hell so we can be safer!
Your "morals and values" apparently allow you to kill your own child without remorse.
The qestion was if anyone here had killed a "MAN", just so ya know. You guys want to debate abortion, start your own thread, like that has not occured here once or twice before.
