So, it seems to me that this move, while a good thing for Democrats in the U.S. Senate, is not a GOOD thing for Democrats, if you know what I mean. It will make a difference in some key votes. But the Democrats would be unwise to count on Specter's vote on every issue.

But as a Democrat, I'm smiling.
Thanks! I'm smilin. too!

He is trailing with conservative Republicans who are a minority in Pennsylvania. Now he bypasses them and brings it on in the general election.

Has anything been debated to date? Stimulus bill, budget, anything you can think of? They'll shoot themselves in the foot just like they did in '93. They can't help it because they don't understand Americans. They ran on hope and change that is really tax and spend. We'll throw the lot of them out in another year and a half. Rasmussen already shows a generic congressional poll dead even. Doesn't seem to be a political realignment.

I think he will take Reid over Limbaugh.

Well one thing for sure is that the Dems will not have that 60 vote majority for long. Republicans will no doubt pick up senate seats in 2010.

Not a dictator...just representing the MAJORITY who were fed up with the Republican party. Here's what you said about MAJORITY in another post.

"Its called a majority. So by your twisted logic, all 300 million Americans should learn ebonics because a small minority does? Should all Americans live in boxes under a bridge because a few do? Thats the perfect definition of liberalism, the rights of the individual should always take priority over the majority regardless how much damage is done. yet, liberals have no qualms about denying 20% of the public that they are not allowed to smoke and force them to pay billions in taxes. Where is your vaunted passion now?"

Sorry if you are not on the side of majority now. And in America we can do something about it. Vote him out next time if enough others agree with you.

If you think that, then you are clueless about how the PA Democratic Party is run. Spector is well respected amongst Democratic voters in PA, in the 2004 race Spector received 20% of Democratic supporters of John Kerry and won handily over Rep. Joe Hoeffel. Second, as I mentioned before, I refurse to believe that Spector didn't switch over without the promised support of the DNC and the state party for his re-election.

Quote:
That being said, whoever emerges from beating Specter in the socialist primary in 2010 will likely prevail in the general election, because, much like New York, any rural and suburban vote in that state is nullified by the Philadelphia vote.
Again your lack of understanding of PA politics is glaring. While Philadelphia is a major voting block you can't win a state wide vote without the surrounding suburban counties, Montgomery, Bucks, Delaware and Chester all of which have moved into the Democratic column, and Pittsburgh.
