Just follow Arlen right to the door! I think President Obama and the Democrats should put forth a real effort at converting these 2 Senators too. It is obvious that their views are not welcome in the Republican Party of today and they will probably draw primary opposition. So why not open the door for them?

Or perhaps if they actually are capable of thinking for themselves like Lieberman they could be independent?

I would like to see all of the Republican moderates come over, in that way I am like the right wing nuts, lets leave the hull of the dingy USS GOP shiney clean. In fact lets haul her and use a 1/2 pint of anti fouling to paint all 6 feet length of her so that no more pesky moderates will be on the limited length and beam of the "hull".Heh Heh. That way the demented Crew with their tiny boat of fools can continue to get smaller and smaller as they get on over the horizion only to become a faint memory of the clear thinking, logical Democrats. I agree with you 100% Wapasha. I just cannot agree with you more

As traitorous as Liberman was in his support of Johnny Mac, Obama said to forgive Joe, work with Joe, keep Joe and even listen to Joe's ideas. He did not say throw Joe out (I would have) nor are the Democrats looking for a primary challenger for Joe. That is why Joe is with us. Joe would never be comfortable with that bunch anyway. The only thing he agrees with them on was the war which is soon to end anyway. Then the GOP would have been trying to dump Joe for his liberal abortion and immigration reform stands. Joe knows this too.

The Democrats do not need to find a primary challenger for Lieberman. Lieberman is not a Democrat. He represents the Lieberman for CT (or something like that) party. Ned Lamont, or someone else, will be the Democratic nominee. Also, this race is not until 2012 so I doubt anyone is really thinking about it right now.

In an editorial today in the NYT, Snowe compares herself to a cast member of "Survivor". The repubs didn't get the message when Jeffords left, and they are now a regional party.

Clip:
There is no plausible scenario under which Republicans can grow into a majority while shrinking our ideological confines and continuing to retract into a regional party. Ideological purity is not the ticket back to the promised land of governing majorities — indeed, it was when we began to emphasize social issues to the detriment of some of our basic tenets as a party that we encountered an electoral backlash.

Dems like Joe because the party has found their inner warmongerer (war is a liberal philosophy btw), plus Joe's got all the liberal economic and social stances.

I sure hope both of these moderates exit the GOP.

My money has always been on the two female senators from Maine to switch, since the GOP passed them over for the VP spot on McCain's ticket in favor of an anti-abortion fundie like Sarah Palin. That worked out well for the GOP, didn't it, it was only a CRUSHING electoral defeat. If the GOP had put Snowe or Collins of ME on the ticket, JM may very well have won the election. Then again, I've a hunch that neither of them wanted to have anything to do with JM or the Rovian thugs running his campaign. I sure wish we knew the whole truth on this, I'm sure its fascinating. I'm also sure Ms. Snowe is being courted by the DEMs as we speak, possibly Ms Collins as well. That would be nice, a TWOFER!
