Gallup Poll: Democrats Maintain Seven-Point Advantage in Party ID
PRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup Polls conducted in the first quarter of 2009, from January through March, find an average of 35% of Americans identifying themselves as Democrats and 28% as Republicans. The seven-point gap is similar to what Gallup has found since 2006, when the political tide turned in the Democrats' favor.

I guess this is Arlen Specter's way of giving a final salute to his Republican colleagues. That thumb is pretty close to his nose!

For a party with 17 million more registered members than the GOP, that does not come across as very impressive.
However, it does show that not everyone in the US has been suckered into the two party system..

I wish I could agree with you, but since about99% of Americans end up voting for either Democrats or Republicans, it appears that the respondents to that poll don't mean what they say.

Democratic Party ID Advantage Highest Point in 18 Years.
Sweet justice.
After 30 years of right wing ideology, Americans are finally waking up.
Democrats Maintain Seven-Point Advantage in Party ID
"The Democratic advantage in partisanship expands to double digits once the political leanings of independents are taken into account. Aggregated data from the first quarter of 2009 show that 52% of Americans identified as Democrats or said they were independent but leaned to the Democratic Party, while 39% identified as Republicans or leaned Republican.
That 13-point Democratic advantage is among the highest Gallup has found since 1991, when it began regularly measuring leaned party identification."
More Tea Parties please.

Only a complete amateur on US Government would not know that 3rd party runs are completely impossible due to the stucture of our election system. They are doomed to failure.
The only suckers are anyone who promotes 3rd parties.
I'm sorry but you must do this the old fashioned way. Lots of slow going, hard work to improve one the two main Parties.
It's your choice. Go dig in the dirt or start making a difference.

Interesting that the elections of GWB, BHO and the Republican Revolution occurred at a time when party identification was clearly democratic. Doesn't seem to play a very significant roll in the way people vote.

Most recent polls show Republicans at a much lower lever, around 20-23%. Though as the link below states, people aren't exactly rushing to the Democrats.

after 8 years of liberal GWB in the white house, this is the best democrats can do? I am shocked the republicans have any members with their liberal policies.
