More Obama Welfare: Welfare recipients now get free cell phone
https://www.safelinkwireless.com/Enr...blic/home.aspx
Quote:
SafeLink Wireless is a government supported program
that provides a free cell phone and airtime each
month for income-eligible customers.

You are Eligible if:
Quote:
- You already participate in other State or Federal assistance program such as Federal Public Housing Assistance, Food Stamps and Medicaid. OR
- Your total household income is at or below 135% of the poverty guidelines set by your State and/or the Federal Government. AND
- No one in your household currently receives Lifeline Service through another phone carrier.
- You have a valid United States Postal Address. In order for us to ship you your free phone you must live at a residence that can receive mail from the US Post Office. Sorry, but P.O. Boxes cannot be accepted.

Completely ridiculous. Cell phone is a luxury item and these welfare losers get a free cell phone? This has got to stop!

I heard something about this. the grocery store I shop at has a lot of people on food stamps shopping there. you would be shocked at some of the luxury items they have. I enjoy glaring at them.

What does this have to do with Obama? This program was available under the previous administration. It isn't giving people unlimited free cell phone service. Seniors on Medicare also have been getting free cell phones for years, but they can only dial emergency services like 911.
Regarding Food Stamps - that is a state run program.
Edit: Please answer this if you want your claim to have some credibility. I can post links to the very same cell phone service from previous years.
Here is one for Tennessee that offers 68 minutes. It gives people the chance to call their doctors or the schools if they have children. (notice the date is Aug 2008?)

Keep going, righties. Prove to everyone what cold-hearted bastards you are.
A cell phone is often the only way that a poor or homeless person can get a job. How do you leave a phone number for an employer when you live in your car, or at a shelter? And how many minutes do they get? It's probably minimal, I'd bet.
Seriously, what's wrong with you people?

In that case, it's time for CHANGE! This program needs to go away. Too many working people don't have phones because they can't afford them, we don't need to give luxury items to welfare moms.

This has nothing to do w/ Obama, is paid for with STATE funds, and has been going on for at least 2 years.
They get 60 minutes or something like that preloaded on a phone, a month.

Then apply for the phone. You don't have to be on welfare to get it, simply have to meet an income requirement.

Safelink Wireless has nothing to do with Obama, it was going on prior to his taking office.
The person who gets the phone gets 60 minutes per month and a free very basic phone. From what I have heard the company who does it, tracfone, ends up making money on the deal because people find that the 60 minutes they are given a month isn't enough so they end up buying more minutes. They only get one year of free service so if they want it for more then that, they have to buy it.
