I'm a registered republican although I'm currently embarrased by the GOP and a majority of our members at the moment because they quite simply have embraced a dying culture of radical ultra-conservatism and redneck mentality. My criticisms of the Obama administration fall in line with the vast majority of republicans in that I vociferously despise the massive corporate/bank bailouts among other things. I have spoken out on this as loudly and fervently as anyone within our party. Yet, I somehow find myself having to defend president Obama as I find the illogical, conspiratorial rhetoric both nauseating and disappointing. Obama is NOT a socialist, fascist, Kenyan, terrorist sympathizer, communist, America-hater, etc...

Instead of engaging in an internal examination and debate of where our party went wrong these past eight years and why we've alienated a large segment of Americans, we'd rather propagate these ridiculous conpiracy theories involving such things as birth certificates and a "secret communist agenda". Do I have misgivings about what Obama has done so far? Yes. Do I believe he's turning America into a socialist country? Even a basic knowledge of what socialism actually is would tell you that is nonsense.

Many of us wondered why we lost the presidency as well as so many seats in congress when the answer is so damn simplistic. America wanted healthcare reform, education reform, tax reform, less dependence on foreign oil, upgraded infrastructure and yet when we had an almost absolute hold on power we gave them a $5 trillion dollar deficit to nation build another country. Where the hell were our tea parties and outrage about government overspending then? That's why we lost!

America wants solutions, not rebellion. What are our policies to improve health care, reduce crime, improve education, reduce poverty and so forth? I don't know. You don't know. The leaders of our party don't even know and yet we expect to improve upon our dismal performance in the 2010 congressional elections?

Refer to me as a "RINO" or a "faker" all you want but I'm someone who passionately believes in the true principles of the GOP and desperately wants to halt our continued decline that can only lead to the GOP becoming a fringe movement.

I'm in exactly the same situation as you, but do we really know they are a majority within the Party? Isn't it possible they just have very loud mouths?

Oh, Please! I complain about government funding for amtrak because it directly affects a field I am directly involved in. Do rail enthusiast have to be a democrat? Give me a break! Should our government only subsidize highway construction and the air industry?

So you think all travel industries should be government subsidized and you want people to believe you are a staunch Republican?
