The collapse of the newspaper industry, the halving of music CD sales from a decade ago and the continued slide of TV ad revenues can be tied to several seismic technological and social changes that have brought the world to the brink of a second Dark Age.

All of these downturns are merely symptoms of an overall accelerated collapse of Western culture, as we know it today.

There's not much that Americans can DO that has any competitive value on the Global stage.

Seems like nobody wants any more of our $hit.

I think there are still many technological aspects of American ingenuity that are world class. Boeing still makes the best damned aircraft in the world. I would say military technology is still at the pinnacle. Let us not forget all the corporate giants that make an influence on all of mankind.

I think it is important for Americans to take stock in what they have, but accept the fact that American dominance is not inevitable and that is ok.

Your $hit maybe. You hate reason, value, accountability, logic, etc. All your threads show that.

I suppose "western cultures demise" might just put a smile on your face.

America entered a new dark age about 20 years when evango-fascist whack job televangelists injected religion into our politics. We are now the laughing stock of the world, the crowning "glory" being Bush-43. Hopefully we can recover under Obama.

LOLOLOL The loss of the liberal newspapers and losee of revenue for the music whores industry and you are ready to go live in a cave. How funny is that?

BTW, it happens to be the modern society that has helped lead this country astray. If people would stop with the rampant consumerism and rampant liberal or the religious right crap thinking then we could have a chance.

The loss of newspapers is troubling because they perform a watch dog function. Who or what is going to take the place of that? When you find corruption in government or in industry who is going to let people know? A 30 minute local tv news show that devotes 5 minutes to civic affairs?

I think the only choice is to fund a BBC type operation here in America that can take over this function because the free market is just not cutting it anymore when it comes to informing Americans about civic affairs.

Yeah, but the dummies are entertained.

I hate to think of what would happen if they were to ever become bored.

They'll get their marching orders from these dumb oafs on AM right wing radio. That's how the lazy and mindless get their "news".

The only thing positive to counteract this is that liberal blogs are really coming on strong. They are still gaining readers and some such as TPM are taking on investigative reporting. It's truly a grass roots media industry.

On the other hand these right wing blogs are pathetic in terms of readership and news gathering....They get their talking points from FOX and they all chime in on the outrage of the day.
