Quite frankly - I'm stating how many Republicans feel. I will agree that many have become completely delusional and that the extreme RW fringe needs to go.
The extreme rightwing fringe is all the GOP has left. They've pushed everyone else out. I've voted Republican all my life. I've voted Democratic once. But I'm so absolutley disgusted with the GOP that I feel I'll probably vote against every Republican in every election from here on.
The damage they've done to America is almost incalulable. They've betrayed the mainstream in favor of the brainless religious right. Let them stew in their own juices.
Interesting that Joe ("morning Joe") Scarborough, former R congressman from the "redneck Riviera" scolded the Republicans this morning for not being able to explain their plan. This was after 5 minutes of Kantor tap dancing around an answer to how the Rs would fix health care.
Kantor gave the typical response; blah, blah, "access to doctors", blah blah, "lower the cost", blah, blah, "our plan is better". Joe's only problem is that instead of pressing Kantor for "specifics" he just let him ramble on and then sign off. When he came back for the next segment he said that the problem the current R party has is that "if" they have a plan for anything; environment, health care, the economy, they've yet to tell anyone what the plan is, hence "the party of NO".
Nice to see one of their own, who doesn't have to worry about Limbaugh, take them on. Here's the "talking points" from the Rs, notice that there is no alternative plan:
Health care; in addition to the above it's also, "choice of doctors", "bureaucracy" (as if dealing with insurance companies is not a nightmare), "socialism.
Environment; "C&T is a huge tax", OK, let's assume that it'll have to be paid for otherwise "market based solutions" can't work-becuase polluting is always cheaper than not-what's your plan? Answer, nothing.
Somehow these guys can't give an answer to the most basic question. Last night Chris Matthews asked Mike Pence, R/IN whether or not he believed in evolution, his answer was that "god created everything", when asked to elaborate he either could not or would not. Matthews pressed him about 5 times and that was his stock answer, other than accusing Matthews of using "gotcha" questions.
Good lord, the only reason I can assume ANYONE follows these guys is CURIOUSITY.
golfgod
Well why do you follow them? Curiosity? A diversion from having to be critical of the actual party in charge? Just a loser? (my guess) Like being pissed off all the time (normal lib)?

I'm a (non-religious) Republican and can't leave the GOP just because of a group of insane evangelicals and Bible-thumpers.
As a true conservative, I still have hope that one day we will recover from the damage of the RW religious extremists.

Why can't a true conservative (or a true liberal) leave the "party" to become an independent? It's not voting choices that would change, but that is the kind of thing that causes "doubt" for the extremes on both ends.

They've spent the past twenty years snuggling up to the loonies, and now the loonies are in control. Maybe they'll spend the next twenty years trying to pry themselves loose. Or maybe they'll degenerate into a minor party of angry, aging southern and rural white males. I'm not waiting for them to become rational again.
If Eisenhower were alive today, the GOP would throw him out, too. They're a total mindless mess. I didn't help put them there. But I'll certainly oppose their "clockstopping" agenda. America needs to move ahead. Far too many current GOP "leaders" give the appearance of supporting a return to the 19th century. Those in the GOP who stand against them are given the shove.
They've made their own bed.
There's an excellent book on this very subject, Conservatives Without Conscience that addresses this exact problem. It's a good read, if you're so inclined.

what's the matter? I started picking your argument apart and now you are ignoring me?
I get it though. you can't debate logic.

I'm technically not anything because we don't register with parties in TX, though I do identify with the principles of the GOP (though certainly not the principles of the RW fringe).
I usually vote about 75% Republican, 25% Democrat.
