A lot of times I say it boils down to economic issues.
A single parent may have to work 2...maybe even 3 jobs. That leaves less time for them to be involved in their child's life which may lead their child to become involved in drugs, drop out of school, etc.
It's not only about economic issues - that's a fairly naive view.

Studies have indicated that boys in single-father homes, for example, fare better than those in single-mother homes.

But liberal progressive types that claim to be for equal treatment do not seem to have a problem with the above.
The whole debate of saying Merry Christmas has nothing to do with the Gay isue.
Gays also love saying merry christmas.
This is a homophobic thing not a political argument. Plenty of Liberals do not like gays and plenty of right wingers think gays should have equal rights. Where does a persons sexuality have anything to do with politics?

Many States have Constitutional Amendments defining marriage as being between one man and one woman.

A large number of states will have similar propositions on their 2010 ballots

Hopefully those amendments get thrown out.

There is absolutely no reason to bar gay couples from this.

Wrong. It is considered a secular society because no one in this country is required to believe anything and yet we are all free to believe anything we deem correct for ourselves. The US is not now nor ever has been a 'Christian nation'.

Again, wrong. The Constitution and particularly the Bill of Rights was designed to prevent 'majority rule' from stomping on and/or eliminating the rights of the minority.

Sorry, but depending upon 'tradition' to prove a point is a logical fallacy. (I'm sure there's a name for it, just don't remember it and am not feeling inclined to look it up right now.) And anyway, who's to say that any particular 'tradition' is 'right'? And 'effective' for what?
