Ohio Christian school tells student to skip prom (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090508/ap_on_re_us/us_school_dance_flap - broken link)

Hmmm....should they be allowed to dictate what the students do outside of school?

Wow, that is very harsh. However, I am not sure what type of recourse the student would have since he signed the contract that he would adhere to the school's rules.

Yes, a private school has that right. If it was a public school, it would be different.

a fundamentalist Baptist school that forbids dancing, rock music, hand-holding and kissing

All schools should forbid these activities.

Even I like some rock music if it's clean or Christian-based, but most of the rock and rap of today is harsh, vulgar, and politically-motivated. If anybody wants to debate me on this all they have to do is have a look at bands like Green Day or rappers like Kanye West.

Hand-holding and kissing are perfectly fine among heterosexual couples but young people at impressionable ages should not be engaging in this openly, especially at a school where you are there to learn.

So if a musician speaks about something they feel is not right in Goverment the music should not be listened to? This does not encourage free thinking and leads kids down a very poor path.

Not all schools should forbid these activities. Arent you religious people the ones who are against gay marriage because it is "tradition" and "God said so"? Well, same here. Prom has been tradition for a long time.

Whats wrong with Green Day?

If it is within the constraints of a private school and their contract then that school has every right to set the rules.

I don't have anything against the concept of a prom if the behavior is kept under control. But maybe you are not aware of what often happens after the prom, or even during a prom in certain hidden corners.

We have heard the horror stories of young girls giving birth nine months after the big night and then throwing their precious newborns in the trash like an old pair of shoes.

Green Day's music is tainted with profanity, rebellion, and politically-motivated lyrics. Kanye West used his stardom to slam President Bush after the Hurricane Katrina fiasco.
