Representative Pete Sessions of Texas, Obama is not trying to create jobs. In an interview, Mr. Sessions cited rising unemployment in asserting that the administration intended to “diminish employment and diminish stock prices” as part of a “divide and conquer” strategy to consolidate power. Sessions, said Mr. Obama’s agenda was “intended to inflict damage and hardship on the free enterprise system, if not to kill it.”

Those dastardly Democrats... their plan all along was to sabotage the economy while they controlled the Presidency and Congress so that the public would... blame Republicans! Brilliant strategy from that Harvard guy!
There are lot of arguments that can be made about the cause and differing approaches for bring about economic recovery but the GOP continues to avoid that discussion instead relying on these mind numbing... I'm at a loss for words - idiotic arguments.

you are right. Instead of offering solutions they came across as only detractors. They offered nothing in alternative and they will pay the price.

Odly enough the Associated Press came out with a story today claiming that Pete Sessions is correct, that the jobs that are going to be created are in areas where they are not needed..
STIMULUS WATCH: Jobs, but not where needed most (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090511/ap_on_re_us/us_stimulus_left_out - broken link)
If the stimulus was about jobs, they would be spending it in areas with the highest unemployment rates, not the lowest, now thats idiotic...
p.s. tell me when Republicans were invited to discuss the topic? Every story I hear is about how Democrats have meetings and exclude Republicans.

The article does absolutely nothing to substantiate Session's comment! In point of fact it refutes his point, despite the fact that the author of the story misses this obvious point as well. Had the construction funds been utilized to consolidate Obama's "power" then the money would have been targeted towards Obama's key constituents, the stimulus money was given to the states who in turn target where they determine the money is to be used. It shouldn't be surprising then that money, like most state funds, are being targeted not at the most needy but the most politically powerful (see suburban and affluent communities).
From the article;
"The problem comes from the fact that the bill was not written right in the first place," said Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. "And the bill not addressing where the money is needed to go, but just addressing, 'Let's get this money out of here as quickly as we can.'"
I dare say that had the administration asked that the stimulus moneys been determined by Washington, the GOP would have been howling about the dictatorial policies of Washington that ignored the special understanding of the states on how money should be spent.
Republican idiocy of the last 50 years: Republicans...
'Nuff said.
You have no idea what the Republican platform was 50 years ago.
