BEIJING (Reuters) - President Barack Obama has chosen Mandarin-speaking Jon Huntsman, the Republican governor of Utah, to be the next U.S. ambassador to China, a diplomat said on Saturday.

The diplomat, who declined to be identified because he is not authorized to speak to the media, confirmed news reports from Utah that Huntsman, 48, had accepted the job.

The reports said an official announcement from Washington was likely on Saturday.

believe it or not.. huntsman is very progressive for a republican.. he supports gay civil unions, and is very environmentally aware...
I've heard from some very left leaning friends in salt lake that he is quite remarkable for being on the other side of the aisle....
I've also heard rumors about him perhaps making a bid to run for president in 2012
