If only the GOP would pay attention to what really matters instead of pandering and waffling....dream a little dream with me, Conservatives.

Get rid of SS altogether and let every man save for himself. The government CANNOT manage money.

They voted FOR illegals collecting SS and now they want to vote against it ?
No wonder we have a problem with illegals in this country..some of them are treated better than US citizens between healthcare, schooling and now retirement..all without becoming a citizen

YUCK!

Illegals get SS?

I am FOR this bill without a doubt.

How can anyone be against it? I sure hope that one vote was by accident or something.

I was stunned to see that illegal aliens were eligible for Social Security. Can anyone confirm that this is true?

I did a little searching online, and found this on the Social Security website:

What will you need when you apply?

Quote:
We may ask you to provide certain documents to show that you are eligible for Social Security and to help us decide how much your benefits should be. The documents you'll need will depend on the circumstances of your claim, but here are some items you should have available:
  • your Social Security card (or a record of your number);
  • your birth certificate;
  • proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful alien status if you were not born in the U.S.;
  • your military discharge papers if you had military service before 1968; and
  • your W-2 form from last year, or your last year's tax return if you're self-employed.
At the bottom of the page appears this: "Last reviewed or modified Thursday Apr 30, 2009."

I also searched THOMAS, looking through the last several Congresses for anything related to Social Security and illegal aliens, and there was a lot, including:
No Social Security for Illegal Immigrants Act of 2009 [HR 2287]
No Social Security for Illegal Immigrants Act of 2007 [HR 736]
No Social Security for Illegal Immigrants Act of 2005 [HR 3938]
No Social Security for Illegal Immigrants Act of 2003 [HR 1631]
Looks like this happens every two years, and doesn't go anywhere??? All those bills would certainly make you believe that illegal aliens can apply for Social Security, but Social Security's own website says differently.

It’s gone for us already. It’s a mathematical certainty. Some economics say it may be gone my 2017, some say sooner than that.

Name one. Even under the very pessimistic assumptions of the SS Trustees, the system will be able to pay 100% of scheduled benefits through 2037.

Contrary to popular disinformation, undocumented workers largely end up paying the same taxes as everyone else. They have contributed over $100 billion to Social Security, and continue to add to that total at a rate of $7-8 billion per year. This is their money. Deducted from their paychecks that they earned with their labor. How unsurprising really that some would not just condone, but advocate that such money be stolen from them.

Google "PRUCOL alien" and read what comes up.

They did not start out illegal..tourist or work visa but never went home when it expired and INS let them stay.

Here's the definition and some of the federal programs they can apply for:

How do you feel about the No Social Security for Illegal Immigrants Act of 2009 - HR 2287

HR 2287 would eliminate Social Security benefits for illegal aliens

Californians for Population Stabilization - ALERT! Legislation would eliminate Social Security benefits for illegal aliens!

Representative Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) has introduced the No Social Security for Illegal Immigrants Act of 2009. HR 2287 would prohibit wages earned while working illegally in this country from being credited towards Social Security benefits.

The Social Security system was designed to provide benefits for American workers and their families. Its intent was not to benefit those who break our immigration laws and labor laws.

To stop illegal immigration we must eliminate the jobs and benefits that attract new illegal aliens. This bill would amend the Social Security Act to "exclude from creditable wages and self-employment income wages earned for services by aliens illegally performed in the United States and self-employment income derived from a trade or business illegally conducted in the U.S."

Does Dana Rohrbachers bill prevent employers from withholding SS and Medicare taxes from the pay of illegals after all Americans shouldn't be parasites on the backs of these hard working people.

Default "illegals granted social security"

U.S. Senate: Legislation & Records Home > Votes > Roll Call Vote
Statement of Purpose: To reduce document fraud, prevent identity theft, and preserve the integrity of the Social Security system, by ensuring that persons who receive an adjustment of status under this bill are not able to receive Social Security benefits as a result of unlawful activity.

Illegals granted Social Security - Washington Times
The Senate voted yesterday to allow illegal aliens to collect Social Security benefits based on past illegal employment -- even if the job was obtained through forged or stolen documents.

"There was a felony they were committing, and now they can't be prosecuted. That sounds like amnesty to me," said Sen. John Ensign, the Nevada Republican who offered the amendment yesterday to strip out those provisions of the immigration reform bill. "It just boggles the mind how people could be against this amendment."

The Ensign amendment was defeated on a 50-49 vote.
