well it's a one hundred dollar fine here where i live if you get caught not wearing a seat belt.. texting while driving is way worse than that.. not wearing a seat belt is not endangering someone elses life like texing while driving does. if you get rear ended from someone texting and become a paraplegic you will change you mind..in the 40's and 50's drunk driving was the norm... it's just a matter of how many people start dying because of texting while driving than laws will be intoduced!!if you get hit and killed by a drunk driver or you get hit by a texter and killed what's the difference.. stupidity and stupidity are the same.

Eh...I've heard arguments that not wearing a seatbelt endangers someone else's life because you can become a flying projectile essentially and can kill another person.

I remember watching this video in this driving class I had to take after a wreck and it was a commercial they played in Europe. One of the kids wasn't wearing his seat belt and he ended up killing all his friends in the car because his body was flying around hitting everyone. He ended up being the one to survive.

It should also be illegal to fiddle around with your purse, read a nap, apply make up, etc while driving because those things can cause accidents too.

I'd much rather ride mass transit any day of the week but the public transportation in my area sucks and people love their cars.
seat belt laws here on the island of st croix were non existent.. then they made it illegal to drive without your seat belt and it was a 25 dollar fine for like ten years... now it's 100 dollar fine if you get caught without wearing your seat belt.. and now the us vi has highes compliance anywhere.. hit um in the wallet it worked here!!!!

Of course it should be illegal. What's next, sleeping and driving?

Maybe. First, however, we need to take a long, hard look at our code of laws and start repealing the ones that don't make sense. At that point, if it still seems prudent to outlaw texting while driving, then I say we go for it.

Ok maybe i'm getting old but i HATE HATE HATE when ppl only want to text and not talk on the phone. A text should be a simple to the point message with pretty much a yes or no answer. Some ppl wanna chat via text like its a conversation that should be relegated to in person, on msn or on the phone. STOP sending long texts!! It is safer too because you aren't distracted while driving typing your friggin text essay - OK!
