To be completely honest, YES he would absolutely pay it back. As a matter of fact, when speaking with head hunters, and negotating hourly fees (as a consultant, since that is all there seems to be), he has offered a lower fee just to better his chances at getting the job. Most people are greedy and want the full amount. He would rather be working, even for less money than not to be working and be earning nothing.

You are right about the mainframe part of programming has been changing for 20+ years. My husband has been able to find work as a programmer for many years. There have been fewer and fewer opportunities and that is why he had decided to self educate in Java. He had worked for this company for 8 years. He really was hoping to work for another 4 years and retire.

The Mega Corps have slowly been changing over to .net and Java. Many of them still have mainframe. There are more jobs in .net and Java. However, if the economy was not an issue, he probably could have easily found another mainframe job. Java and .net is another language that he is not use to, but is trying to learn.

What's wrong with socialism? Don't understand the complaint. What is it more than if you win, you win, if you lose, you still win. Who doesn't want that deal? Even a CEO will take that great deal. Sounds like something Jesus would be for.

Our Cobra payments are going to be $1,800 a month, but thanks to Obama, they will only be $600 a month.

What a terrible thing! He must be a socialist.
Who do you think is paying for that, Obama? No. It is the taxpayers and the government redistributing the wealth. That is socialism.

This thread is over a year old. Wonder if her husband found a job after being "reducated"? Did the 5K gift work?

PGHQUEST is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY off base, everybody gripes about the Stimulus Package, and just like a Republican, they never rely on facts. The current job training ACT is due to the Stimulus Package passed by a DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS! Next time at least get your facts straigt. The current job training bill he speaks of is a conflagration of REPUBLICAN PORK, REPUBLICAN RIDERS, AMENDMENTS that have NOTHING TO DO WITH TRAINING OR JOBS, that is why has NO intelligent support, and will die in the Senate.

Job training funds in the stimulus bill: is $4.5 billion enough?
The Workforce Alliance is reporting that the stimulus bill introduced in Congress yesterday includes $4.5 billion in new funds for the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and Employment Services (ES). This is rather less than the $12.5 billion over two years for job training that TWA has been advocating for.

Here's how TWA reports the breakdown:

1) WIA Formula Funding: $2.7 billion

•Adults: $500 million
•Youth: $1.2 billion
•Dislocated Workers: $1 billion
2) WIA Discretionary funding: $1.3 billion

•High Growth and Emerging Industry Sectors: $750 million for a new program of competitive grants for worker training, of which $500 million is designated for projects that prepare workers for careers in the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries specified in the Green Jobs Act of 2007. Priority consideration for the balance of funds will be given to projects that prepare workers for careers in the health care sector.
•Dislocated Workers Assistance National Reserve: $500 million in national emergency grants to provide income and support services for individuals to participate in job training, with an emphasis on areas of high unemployment or poverty.
•YouthBuild: $50 million in supplemental awards to existing programs and an expansion of a current competition to allow at-risk youth to gain education and occupational credentials while constructing or rehabilitating affordable housing.
3) State Unemployment Insurance and Employment Service Operations (ES): $500 million

4) No less than $250 million will be used to provide reemployment services for Unemployment Insurance claimants.

Thanks to TWA for their analysis. We'll be hearing more as this stimulus bill and others make their way through the Congressional process, which as you'll remember goes something like this:

Another parasite cheering the rape of the taxpayers. All unemplyment benefits after 26 weeks should be converted to no-interest LOANS when you get a job.

Well for one thing we have separation of Church and State, so give up what Jesus was for. You can't have separation of Church and State when it comes to morality but only bring in Jesus when it's time to rob the working Americans of their hard earned money.

This is how I teach Socialism to my kids. We have Socialist days and Capitalist days. They want money so they have to do something to earn it.

On Capitalist days they get to keep what they earned. But on Socialist days I give them the money they worked so hard for and then I take it back telling them it's not fair that the kid who slept in until noon and did nothing but play video games needs his fair share of that money.

Guess what..... I can't get any of them to want to do anything on Socialist days.

No. It's not thanks to Obama. Obama isn't giving your husband or you a dime of his own income. Obama isn't cutting down on his glamorous parties with Hollywood celebrities to provide you anything.

Thanks to the taxpayers. The people who are out there working and slaving and then to be told they will have to pay much more to pay for the nice freebies your family enjoys.

Yes, it should be loans. Why should your husband get a free ride on the backs of the taxpayers, present and future?

I was laid off of a NICE job, while supporting a family, and a mortgage, and car payments.

I was 18 months before I found fill time employment. (this was in 2004, when the max unemployment was 6 months anyways).
I received no cobra support, and minimal unemployment. I was able to get some help from my Brother, had some savings, and then I worked 2-3 and sometimes 4 part time jobs a week to earn money. I paid for my children's doctor visits out of my pocket, and their medication every month, watched every penny. Generic canned goods, cheap gas, clothes from goodwill and salvation army, it wasn't easy, but kept the house, car wasn't repossessed, made it till I got a full time job. Oldest helped out, with a part time job, (was great, they worked at a restaurant and brought home food to eat when there was leftovers).

It is possible to make it, but it takes work to make it happen and not live off of someone elses hard earned money.

I am glad you got so many handouts, and when your husband is gainfully employed, he should pay back the money and assistance he received, for the next person who needs it.

I watched an interview where people were asked where money comes from for welfare, WIC , UE , etc. and many simply said "Obama". He then followed it up with, "You think the President is giving you some of his own money?" Yes they do.
