Let them do away welfare programs in those states as well. With a massive exodus of poor folk, I might just be able to move to socal after I graduate from college. Instead of attracting people who don't even have a high school education from south of the border, they'll get an educated professional who'll create employment in their state.

If they can figure out how to come north, they should be able to find their way back to the south just fine.

Perhaps we (meaning every state) should work to provide some more encouragement for them to do so.

Again....I stress the word "limited."
I say pack the poor folk into churches. Let's turn these folks into upstanding, morally sound, self-supporting citizens.

I disagree with "packing them into churches."

States should provide limited benefits for a short period of time to AMERICANS in need.

Illegals should not be provided a damn thing.

If the Republican Party of California could ease up on issues like same-sex unions, abortion and teaching evolution in schools, I bet they could win a lot more elections in this state. Unfortunately, as in much of the country, the folks who control the Republican Party in California are very conservative and would be loath to moderate their positions.

It's clear that Californians want a lot more fiscal conservatism, but I think they're unwilling to elect leaders who appear to be beholden by the Religious Right. For that reason alone, Democrats have a big advantage here.

This would certainly call for a turn toward libertarianism.

My guess is that we all will be soon paying for California's welfare programs. That's the way things work under an Obamalamadingdong government.

Have you missed the proposals to have the federal government bail out California, or just conveniently ignoring it?
