There is only one problem with this is they will flood to neighbor states like Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Nevada.
Let them do away welfare programs in those states as well. With a massive exodus of poor folk, I might just be able to move to socal after I graduate from college. Instead of attracting people who don't even have a high school education from south of the border, they'll get an educated professional who'll create employment in their state.
"Charity" business...no. But the government should provide some limited welfare. Not everyone is a member of a church and people do need some stable, guaranteed form of assistance.
Again....I stress the word "limited."
I say pack the poor folk into churches. Let's turn these folks into upstanding, morally sound, self-supporting citizens.
If the Republican Party of California could ease up on issues like same-sex unions, abortion and teaching evolution in schools, I bet they could win a lot more elections in this state. Unfortunately, as in much of the country, the folks who control the Republican Party in California are very conservative and would be loath to moderate their positions.
It's clear that Californians want a lot more fiscal conservatism, but I think they're unwilling to elect leaders who appear to be beholden by the Religious Right. For that reason alone, Democrats have a big advantage here.
