What should we do about the Octomom and her sperm donor (who is known to her and knows he's a father, yet has it rigged that he's "anonymous" so he has no responsibility for his and her offspring)?
Why should the taxpayers shoulder her whole burden that she paid over $100K to get herself into (artificial insemination)? It's obvious that even if she stayed up 24-7-365 she would not be able to care for all the physical needs of her children, let alone their mental and emotional needs. Yet she's still got all of them, at taxpayer expense. Nobody made her put them up for adoption. She goes on Dateline and Dr. Phil and all those who hate welfare queens make their ratings go through the roof watching her.
Looks like we have done nothing but make her a celebrity and pay her money, yet we give lip service to "welfare queens" all the time. Well here is the ULTIMATE welfare queen and she is not being penalized for anything ... not even for her outright fraud of workers' compensation ... who can carry 8 fetuses when they supposedly cannot work as a psychiatric hospital aide and instead deserves over $100K because of a "herniated disk?" She can!
Nobody does anything. Sometimes I wonder if she and her sperm donor were black if they would have been penalized.
Well, really, she is an isolated case. There aren't a lot of others out there like her (hopefully). Yes, it's going to cost a lot of money to support her and those kids, but this is not a common situation. Leave the race card out of it.
I once worked with a lot of teen moms, both in and out of school. Many of these young ladies had no skills whatsoever, were totally unemployable.
i don't think you will be accused of being a commie, but i do think that using krugman as a reference sets you up to be questioned (since krugman has been wrong on just about everything so far).....
Yes, the Ludvig von Mises Institute is head and shoulders above Princeton. And Robert P. Murphy has won HOW MANY Nobel prizes? What day is his column in a major newspaper and which one does it appear in?
Come on. I am not saying Krugman is perfect. Heck he admits he's not perfect and doesn't have all the answers. But after reading that article, I think Murphy (author of The Politically Incorrect Guide to Capitalism) is perhaps being a bit tongue in cheek and you didn't catch it. If not, he is not grasping Krugman's theory correctly. Also, this is only ONE column of Krugman's he is dissecting and you state that Krugman is wrong on just about everything.
Murphy wrote that in 2008 and it is now 2009 and "the free market" hasn't fixed the problem yet without an increase in consumer spending and instead of being unconcerned with consumer spending and just letting the "pipeline realign itself" the free marketers and the government are offering such never before heard of things as "we will make your car payment for 12 months if you lose your job" and "buy a new car and you can write off the sales tax" and "buy your first home and you can write off $8,000."
Since you like to read, I would suggest you read the essays of Barbara Ehrenreich in her collection "This Land is Their Land." This will explain how America has become a corpocracy instead of a democracy and what the effect is on the common american (not the rich). Unless you are one of the rich, it would make sense for you to be on the side of the common american.

I didnt make her a celebrity, MSM did. Nor did I waste one minute about her. But those children should be put up for adoption. Immediately. It's obvious she has mental health issues. And if she did have plastic surgery while on welfare, she should have to pay a remittance, be criminally charged with fraud and serve some time.
The hypocratic oath requires a concern about life and the clinic/doctors who administored her procedure are negligent and should be fined, the doctors should be suspended from practice and the clinic closed.
I do not see any validity in your arguement. "They're not sharing!" Sounds more like you're jealous of their success. Jealous of their money, affluence and life style. How does their accumulation of wealth affect or inhibit your ability to work hard/smart to earn your own? Just how does their success drag you down. How does their success increase your tax liability? It doesn't. It's all in your head.
The top 5% pay 53.25% of all income taxes. The top 10% pay 64.89%. The top 25% pay 82.9%. The top 50% pay 96.03%. The bottom 50%? They pay a paltry 3.97% of all income taxes. The top 1% is paying more than ten times the federal income taxes than the bottom 50%! And we are just talking income taxes. The rich pay a hell of a lot more taxes over all than any of us.
A lot of the wealth at the top is based on the exploitation of the middle class and poor. Is it a coincidence that a $65 billion family fortune was built on a union busting low wage model like Walmart? A lot of the wealth of the super rich is built on questionable means like the current financial industry. I don't see any of the investment bankers who gave out and packaged the voodoo of subprime mortgages that brought the economy to its knees suffering, do you? The huge concentration of wealth is used to tilt the political process in favor of the wealthy and against you and me. Who do you think demanded the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy? AFL-CIO?
Darling, I used to see the income taxes of the very rich, estates of dead very rich celebrities, and business corporations large and small every single day at one of the biggest accounting firms in the USA. Do you know what US GAAP is? It is the commonly used accounting standard that is very flexible. It is so flexible, as a matter of fact, that you can perfectly legally finagle your balance sheet so that it looks like you are making no profit, hence no taxes to be paid. You are drinking their Kool Aid. You and I pay more taxes than they do.

We agree about something. Those kids are going to suffer being stuck at the hands of that woman and the doctor who performed this procedure on someone like her is culpable too.

I think the kids should be taken away from her and adopted out to families that can care for them.
As for the race card, I just wonder how the reaction to her would be if she were not white and raised "middle class." Somehow I think it would not be so permissive.
If the situation continues to deteriorate think about what happened in Nazi Germany.
That's what is going to happen.
Some severe far right (or far left) political leader will rise up and use mind control to persuade them that they have been misled by the government and then all anarchy will ensue.
The R party is doing a pretty good job with that already.
