Criminal prostitution is one of the great ironies in America. When money (ie. taxes) is to be made via pornography, the government is gung-ho. But when there is no money to be made, the government is vehemently against it.
I do not think it is that. If it were legal prostitution could indeed be taxed as it is taxed in Nevada through licensing fees and business taxes. I think the relationship between prostitution and pornography is similar to the relationship between tobacco and marijuana. In both cases the legal one and the illegal one have some differences, but more commonalities then differences and the key difference is that one is illegal.
I cannot say I have a reason as to why people are gung-ho for one and vehemently against another and I do think it is odd, but I do not think it has to do with taxation.

It has nothing to do with money. Prostitution is legal in rural Nevada, and the counties do receive tax funds. Pornography is protected speech.
Prostitution was once referred to as a "victimless" crime. Now, it turns out the victim is sometimes the prostitute. I have mixed feeling.
Women become "victims" of prostitutin because of the way it has to be performed. Seedy corner transactions, hiding from the authorities, even if they are victimised by clients, being pushed into the criminal world with no rights or safety. Legalise prostitution for the safety of both the girls and the clients and to eliminate the pimps. Prostitution is NOT going away, let's put it in it's proper place and that isn't as a illegal act.

You make good points. I was mainly referring to the average Jane that caters to the average Joe on the street. I think overall it's silly to punish these people for something that is perfectly legal when it's videotaped. If Jane want's to put herself out there, and Joe wants to take part in the action, they should be able to do so without recourse. I guess licensing could be a workable solution like you mentioned.
This would do nothing but give rise to higher potential of broken families. As it is now we have large numbers of people harmfully addicted to gambling, drinking, smoking... etc. Keeping prostitution illegal has given it a filthy, sketchy and reprehensible reputation... which it certainly is (where it is illegal), this has effectively curbed a large amount of patronage.

I chose YES because there was not a LEGAL but REGULATED option. I am 100% in favour of full legalization of the sex trade BUT it should be regulated tightly. It should include things like:
1. Only licensed prostitutes and establishments may be engaged in it
2. Prostitutes shall use condoms and shall be subjected to health checkups
3. No brothels in residential areas or within 200 feet of a school
4. No "street walkers". All such business shall be carried out either in a licensed brothel or on a call out basis to a residence or hotel room.
5. A tax shall be imposed upon the trade to pay for the regulation and enforcement
6. NOBODY UNDER 18 SHALL BE ENGAGED IN THIS BUSINESS
