What usually stands out to me when there are cases like this, not just involving Flags but anything displayed in the workplace, it the "what? who me?" attitude of those doing it. First, they don't follow the basic rules of polite society and ASK their cubical/office mates what they think or if it's OK, etc. Sometimes they are genuinely ignorant of such niceties but other times it's calculated so they can claim innocence and when someone has the nerve to complain, especially when they do things that they KNOW someone might have a problem with...just because they CAN.

It's the American Way.

I wish that this article did two things -

1) shown what the office space looks like. Granted, its a big flag but if the office space was large and/or each supervisor had a seperate area in which to hang whatever they wanted I would have to say - who cares? But, the article doesnot give the rooms dimensions or a photo of the room.

2) I would like to have had heard from the woman who complained, or at least from other co-workers about this dispute. Was it because of the size or was it because it was the US flag? Sure, the supervisor is now stating it was all about the size, but I do sense a certain amount of azz covering once it hit the news.

So, since we aren't privy to what the room looked like or the co-workers side of the story we can 'what if' till doomsday, but none of us will really know the truth.

Completely off topic, but I can't help commenting when I see posters from states with names like California, and Texas complaining about seeing signs written in Spanish.

(Yes Tejas is a Caddo name but you get the point, well maybe).

Cubicles are usually used to "house" one employee. These employees can hang whatever they want on the walls provided they don't go against company policy (like pornography, curse words, etc). I have no business telling someone to take down something in their cubicle as they have no business telling me. If someone told me to take my American flag down, I would tell them to meet me after work so we can properly discuss why they want me to remove it.

In a shared office environment like the one in this case, 3 x 5 sounds like it may be a bit big. If it were up to me, I would have brought a smaller flag in (arond 2x2). However, I wouldn't have been so "offended" by the person bringing in this flag if it were temporary or if it's on a wall that is not adorned with anything else. The fact that it was an African immigrant that complained may lead to people thinking this woman has an anti-American view and is being discriminatory TOWARDS Americans since the flag offends her.

The woman who complained needed to understand the sensitivity of this issue and made it abundantely clear that it was the SIZE of the flag and not the flag itself. If I were in this situation and were made to take down the flag, I would complain about ANYTHING this woman put up, especially personal pictures.

In any event, people need to get over themselves with their faux outrages. Sure, I can see size being an issue in this case. A 3 x 5 flag is a bit big, but it certainly doesn't offend me one bit. To be fair though, I don't know how the wall space in this case is being used and where it compared to where the staff sits and works.

It's the cowardly, passive-aggressive style of the Republican Base. For instance Sean Hannity is like that too, horribly.

Talk about "going off on a tangent," delu. WTF is "belligerent" about displaying the US flag? Is flying the flag, or displaying the flag against your grain? You amaze me, you really, really do.

Hold on, let me find my autoreply. I have a standard reply when people -- always rightwingers, oddly -- make the big discovery about my username and feel compelled to bring it to my attention in some elephantine way. Ive had to use this three times in the last week. Okay, here.
"Oh, I get it! Hey, that's pretty bright of you, [theroc5156]. I never noticed how I'd designed my username until you pointed it out for me. Thanks!"
