The difference is I don't want surgery...I just don't define "woman" in the narrow minded way people like you define it. I don't see gender as a multiple choice issue...I see it as a spectrum.

I am not narrow minded at all. you are a woman who was born gay, and I respect that. that's nature. however, you aren't a man. you never will be, no matter how you feel or what surgery you get.

Uh...Silas...read what she said. I don't think she wants to be a man. I think she's a woman who loves other women.

Okay, back to the original topic --

I'm gay, and if it were me, I would have run for Prom King, but then again, I have a more masculine personality and it would have found it a little awkward personally to run for Prom Queen.

But I'm not going to judge Sergio Garcia for running for Prom Queen. From what I can tell, he seems to be very feminine and perhaps identifies more with the "queen" label than the "king" one. So perhaps for him, he honestly wanted to be Prom Queen.

And the fact that he won Prom Queen shows that the "people have spoken." He received the most votes from his classmates, so he won. That's democracy in action. President Obama won the majority vote (and electoral college votes), so he won the election. A lot of conservatives & Republicans were perhaps unhappy about the election results, but they had to concede and move on. In the same way, Proposition 8 in California passed with 52% of the vote. A lot of gays, lesbians, and liberals were very upset, but they will have to accept that decision and move on as well.

By the way, this high school is located in one of the most socially liberal parts of Los Angeles. Fairfax High School is located just outside the city limits of West Hollywood (a mecca for the LGBT community). Most people in the local community where Fairfax High is, aren't really making a big fuss about this news.

Reading the posts on here and on the L.A. Times blog, it appears that the people who are screaming the loudest about this story are social conservatives. Everyone else is just amused.

You know how some people feel that illegal immigrants are destroying the fabric of our society? That's how homophobes feel about homosexuals, the only difference is that homophobes have virtually 0% proof to back up that allowing homosexuals rights (or to be prom queen) will tear our society apart.

So now you need to blurr the lines of what defines a women and men as genders? Pathetic.

not very educated on the topic are you?

a male can not be a female, in the biological sense. but they can live their life as a man. its the difference between gender and sex. one is male, the other is man/masculine.

i have seen these guys that have vaginas! body builder types. a famous porn star. Buck ANgel.

blew my mind away.

they look very manly. are they males? no. men? yes.
