I think Obama is wise---------------------------------in his choices.
Do you think Obama would have appointed Clarence Thomas to a like position? Thomas came from a background fraught with racial strife in his early years but I don't know one Democrat who is not racist in talking about Thomas.

I wonder if it is the color of his skin or his sex that keeps Thomas from making good decisions in Sotomayor's thinking. Surely she doesn't think he can make wise decisions since he is both male and black and she thinks that female Latins are much smarter because of their backgrounds.

As far as whether a "Wise Latina" can make a better decision than a "White Man" - Betty Boop could have done a better job in ruling on the 2000 election that justices of SCOTUS who actually did.

I say give Sotomayor a whirl.
If a whirl was only two years and then we could remove her it would be okay but in this case the whirl will be for the rest of her life, and I fear that.

You can't trust him, I tell you. He's got shifty eyes, and he may be related to someone in the Mafia.
All I can say to this post is PELOSI.

Not wild about her, either, but I'm not in her district so I can't vote for her.

You're AFRAID OF EVERYTHING, roy. Get a grip. Anything other than a while male good ole boy scares you senseless.

That sounds like pure racist/gender bias BS on your part.

Clarence Thomas. Two words come to mind. Anita Hill. Enough said.

We don't need a person that tries to make policy from the bench on the supreme court. That is what congress is for.

Are "wise Latinas" better decision makers than white men

If the Latina is making reference to herself then I would say that she probly isn't wise enough to be considered a decision maker.

Except that if Clarence Thomas looked like Denzel Washington, we'd never have heard of Anita Hill.

To identify with people, you need to be able to empathize with people from all walks of life. You need to be able to empathize with Sotomayor, to try to understand why she made the remark "wise Latina", how her background and experiences led her to that speech, and that sentence. You can't say you identify with all people, if you can't identify with specific people.
I don't know about him, but I know exactly where she is coming from and it is a biased statement. She was putting white men down. I can identify with people period too and I do and it is not your job to tell me that I can't. You need an attitude adjustment.

I have been a liberal democrat until I realized how destructive that is to democracy. I still have not come to a conclusion about her as a Supreme Court Justice, but I know racism when I hear it.
